Aluminium Mess Tin With Lid And Handle

Nice for storage
I believe this is intended for individual meal cooking/consumption. I'm using it for condiment storage. This is the smallest of the two mess tins that Trangia sells, I also have the larger one that stores more but weighs more. Lids are very tight fitting and with the handles folded on top, I believe pretty much spill-proof. I've seen semi-rigid zipper cases for these that are similar to what's available for the Trangia cook kits, would keep them from getting all dented up when being hauled around. There's not a lot of similar items to these on the surplus market. Kind of expensive, but you are getting new as opposed to surplus well-used.

Best emergency/bugout pot for your money
This is the second time buying this pot..lone to a friend that had it walk away. I paired this pot up with the Trangia folding stove. It fits perfectly inside pot. I have made a Sm. Altoids tin into a alcohol burner with carbon fiber boils 2 cups of water in 5 1/2 minutes using only 17 mm of fuel & it fits inside the stove perfectly. It has lots of room for folding knife/forks/spoon/lighter ECT..

Versatile container
Well made box. Lid fits nice and snug, but not waterproof. Just gently squeeze the box in the middle and the lid comes off smoothly. Handle allows box to be used for serving food or liquid, but the edges are fairly fine. It should serve well in organizing special bits of kit that might get damaged in a bag or soft sided pouch. I think it's a pretty neat little container, but more than one might be noisy in the pack.

Very Useful
Very useful for heating up a simple meal over an Esbit or Trangia pocket stove while camping or day-hiking. The Esbit folding stove fits right inside, as well as a spork, condiments, and extra fuel tabs. Make sure that you get the version with the handle, however.

Should have bought one sooner
Nice tin. I have it in my edc shoulder bag. It holds my sunglasses wrapped in a bandana, a spoon, some hard candy, and usually a pack of crackers. Nothing in it gets crushed! And if i happen to need a little pan to heat some soup, or water for coffee I've got one.

I'm the Tin Man
I really like Trangia's aesthetic. Their products are not the flashiest, but they still somehow retain a kind of old world charm. This tin is no exception. I've had it for a while now, used primarily as an edc tin for my everyday pack. It's not extremely rugged, being thin aluminum, but it's solid for my needs. So, on a whim, I gave some light cooking a try over my Trangia spirit burner, frying some turkey sausage and eggs. Couple things I noticed: 1) hot spots due to the irregular shape of the tin make this pot-stove combo workable but not ideal 2) drown this sucker in oil or risk a level of stick even worse than titanium. (Side note: the Imusa Egg Pan is the perfect match for the Trangia Spirit Burner.)In the future, I think I'll stick to boiling water or ramen on day hikes. Regardless, cooking should only be a secondary function of this tin. It's still fun to try tho.

Lightweight, practical
If you're a backpacker looking to reduce weight, this is a good compromise. The aluminium is very thin, but this is what brings down the weight. The lid fits very snug, so it is useful as a container to other items. During cooking I leave it on loose, so I can knock it off with a spoon when the water has boiled. Will hold about 300ml comfortably. I've fried sausage and egg in it without any issues, as long as you use enough oil and are happy holding the tin to remove it from the heat to avoid burning. The edges are sharp as others have mentioned, but rubbing that down with some sandpaper of a stiff scourer sorts that out easily. I use this with a "Trangia Triangle" and it's replaced my trangia mini.

Sharp edges but good otherwise
The other day, I took a couple of these out into the woods to do some outdoor cooking with friends. They don't look cheap, and the insulated handle is a good feature. However, the edges were easily sharp enough to accidentally slice your hand open by, say, reaching for the tin in a bag.My mini-stove was ignited and I realised the tin was a bit small. It sat steadily enough on the legs of the stove, but it's not as stable as a larger mess tinβa minor point, certainly.Of course, the point about buying this was to cut down on size and weight for backpacking, and in that respect it's fit for purpose.

Excellent service - arrived before due date. Good Trangia quality mess tin.
This is the second Trangia mess tin I own. The first is about 12 years old now and still going strong, but lid has got loose. New one is great, tight fitting lid and same quality as original. The lightweight hardened aluminium may seem at first glance to be flimsy, but, certainly in my case, this has not been my experience. My original has travelled over 75% of the world with me in a bergen or thrown in a transit container, and although dented here and there has stood the test of time. The new one is identical in both dimensions and thickness of material. As a rice cooker it has no equal.

Does the job fine
I ordered this tin a little dubious of some reviews once arrived it is exactly as described yes it's thin Guage aluminium but not so thin as it's a problem the edges are only as sharp as one would expect on any basic tin or aluminum container it is exactly the same dimensions as are stated on the specs in the advert I don't understand why any reviewer would say smaller than expected when the dimensions are clearly on the product advert π€·π»ββοΈπ€·π»ββοΈ great little Tin does what I've ordered it for sturdiness is as I fully expected for a mess tin costing 8 pounds if you want thicker guage pay more very simple

Smaller Than A Standard Mess Tin
Make sure you check the dimensions. It's a lot smaller than a standard mess tin. Build quality is fine but it did arrive with some very minor dents in the lid. Not a problem for me as I anticipate it getting a lot more this summer.
