For the Love of ACT Math: This is not a math book; this is an ACT math book

Great book for practice problem.
I'm a tutor and a frequently use this book with my students. It is an excellent resource for targeted practice. For higher level student and student with tutors, I highly recommend it.However, I would not recommend it for lower level students who do not have someone to teach the relevant skill. The instructor provided with in is severely lacking.

Well done
My son was trying to improve his ACT and while is score was already over 30, he just wanted to see if he could do better. He came to me and said all the CLUE people (gifted kids) at his old school swore by this book. I gave it it a try as well as the science book and he used them both. He felt like the math was really strong and prepared him well. He did get 2 more points on his ACT math and mad the book worth every penny. The questions and techniques provided were very useful and were representative of those on the test.

Disappointing- Explanations are needed
I love Private Prep's For the Love of ACT Science. One of my go-to books for student. I was excited to buy this book. I was disappointed. The diagnostic tests were good. I would use those with students to assess where they are at in their math journey. However, the math drills did not provide enough explanation. There were questions that went past what the explanations provided as well.In addition, some of the questions did not reflect what students would see on the ACT. Although, I will say, that was rare. The examples provided did not always match the practice questions, especially the harder questions towards the end of the practice section. There are no explanations in the book or online. In the book, they claim that is for the best. The reasoning provided is students can practice until they get them right. I do not see how a student who is completely lost would arrive at an answer. I could see a student buying this book for self-study becoming frustrated. I understand explanations take up a lot of space but an online companion would help. Without explanations, I find this to be inaccessible to most students. There are a couple good lessons but not enough to justify buying the book for tutoring or for self-study. If, at one point, the explanations become accessible online, I would recommend this book. I hope they change course on this decision not to have explanations. Until then, I would only recommend it to students in the 23-27 range and only if they had exhausted many of the popular options but wanted additional practice problems. However, I would probably recommend going over released practice tests instead.

Great ACT math resource
I am a full-time ACT tutor who specializes in working with students who have anxiety and LD's. I was in the process of writing a book with another tutor because we just found it there was so much information missing in typical ACT books, especially when working with low-scoring students who maybe are missing some of the fundamental information needed for the most basic ACT questions. This book has become my staple with all my students, even my high-performing students.Thank you to Michael and the team for putting out such a great book.

Finally what I needed for my ACT students!
I have used every single ACT book on the planet. I teach so much ACT prep to students of all score levels. I was almost to the point of writing my own math book because I was always having to piece things together. The guys NAILED it. I will update my review after I see how it goes with the actual students, but as the teacher (of high-achieving, barely achieving, and LD of all varieties), I am in serious love. I just might try out the science book, too.

A Disappointment: the College Panda series is far superior.
I'm a Harvard grad, ACT Math perfect 36 scorer, and professional test-prep tutor since 2002."For the Love of ACT Math" is a collection of loosely organized synthetic practice questions for the ACT math section, with very little teaching material and answer explanations holding it together. The text is interspersed with a handful of motivational cartoons that suggest the author's target audience may not be 99% scorers, but instead, average students who need a "quick fix." If you aim for an elite score on the ACT math section, then I suggest that you check out the College Panda series of books for a more serious, organized, and thorough overview of the material on this exam. The College Panda's ACT Math: Advanced Guide and Workbook The College Panda's ACT Math Workbook: More Advanced Practice By Topic As a fan of "For the Love of ACT Science" (four stars!), I was expecting more. More organization, more math formulas, full answer explanations, and most importantly, more teaching material, instead of just third-party practice questions, since we already have tons of old, official ACTs to practice with ("with which to practice"...but that's another section of the test). Like "For the Love of ACT Science," this book would benefit from referencing actual ACT math questions from recent tests, instead of relying on its own imitation questions. For my full ACT prep recommendations, google "ACT Action Plan." Please leave comments below and I will try my best to respond.

Great book for ACT Math!
After raising her science score by 6 points using For the Love of ACT Science, we decided to give this book a try. I am happy to report my daughter is done testing for good! She got her scores back today and went up 4 points in math. Highly recommend both books for those who need help with the science and math portions of the ACT!
