Fumbling FIrst Attempts
This is a teen movie with the endless teen theme of boy seeking to get the goodies from the girl. It is better than the average for this genre due to several factors. Mostly, it is because is well done. The subject matter lends itself to course treatment but that is not what is presented here. Instead, the situations are depicted with as much dignity as possible from hormone driven teenagers and is is presented with comedy. The time of the film is the 50s. Society was more innocent back then but boys still had the same thing on their minds that they always have and always will. In this case, the school geek has a bad case for the school beauty queen. He is aided in his quest by the cool loner from out of town who has his own heart set on "the nice girl". Meanwhile, the unpopular girl has a bad case herself for the geek. The geek achieves his goal and learns that the decorative aspects of women sometimes cover up the less desirable traits. The loner finds that the nice girl really is a nice girl and that love is something special. The unpopular girl undergoes a hormone miracle and becomes a prize catch. Everyone winds up happy except the town bully/rich boy. It is simplistic in its portrayal but no less appealing for that.Kelly Preston plays the beauty queen and she really is the stuff of dreams until the wrapper comes off. Doug McKeon plays the geek who becomes a prize himself. Catherine Mary Stewart is the nice girl that I wish had lived next door to me and Jami Gertz is the metamorphosed hormone miracle. The cast is rounded out by Chris Nash. Each does a good job in the role. Teen angst comes to the fore and a worthwhile story actually results. It was fun and bittersweet in the memories it conjured.

Good teen romance.
I saw this movie years ago and I had a really hard time finding it. I couldn't remember the name of it and I couldn't remember the actors names in. So in between amazon and you tube I finally found it took me over a month, but I came across it last week. The movie I love back then and I still love it.This is about a young teen with his father that move to this town in Ohio. The boy's mother died and the father was left to raise the teen. The boy had gotten into trouble from the school from where they lived and they moved to start fresh. He meets this other boy that lives in the neighborhood and helps him with getting to get girls. He meets this girl in the neighborhood and falls for her. He gets into fights with another teen a couple of times. He dad is abusive and tells him to leave without caring were he goes. He leaves and the boy he befriended and the girl that he fell in love with are looking for him. They are wondering were he went and what happened. The boy does come back in hopes that the girl will go with him and she does. As for the boy that he helped will he started to have more confidence in himself and took some action on his own in memory of his friend that left.

1956 is well represented!
What a classic '80s T&A movie! My review will offend Christians in the crowd...heck! It's going to offend ME, but I h-a-v-e torepeat what I heard in an audience when I firstsaw this in a movie theater. At one point where the two folks on the DVDcover get naked, two soldiers screamed out [inthe theater I was sitting in] "Lookie there! The rugdon't match the curtains."Well, the bleach-blond looked just fine to ME!By the movie, and enjoy the film. Oh! The car thetwo are seen in---the DVD case cover---is NOT theone she gets her panties ripped off in... T-h-a-t wasa pea-green Studabaker... but, both cars get demo-derbied in the final moments of the car.Great movie for the over-seventeen crowd! Loved it!Great 1956 era sound track as an added bonus!

Fun guilty pleasure movie from my childhood.
One of my guilty pleasures from when i was a kid. One of my first crushes. And it had one of the best soundtracks, every song had purpose in the film. Hopefully one day we get a blu-ray version. Everything else is coming out. Lol

So glad I found this gem!
I love watching movies from the 80's, and this movie did not disappoint, I can't believe I had never heard of it before. It is funny, witty, and all-around great. Some people may get turned off by the foul language, but to me it made it more realistic instead of using cheesy sayings that teenagers don't actually say like "jeepers" or "shuck". I don't recommend for children (language, nudity, sex), but everyone else will get a kick out of it.

Fun 50's film from the 80's.
Although I did not go to high school in the 50's, I am a huge fan of 1980's films. In fact, I was born in the late 1950's, but do remember some of the school days of my older sister and my brother. I remember the fashions, the cars, and the hairstyles. Penny loafers and bobby socks, good times and music. Prior to the Vietnam war. I also am a huge Doug McKeon fan, so that was my main reason for getting this movie. I was not disappointed, and he is fabulous as usual! Talk about the boy next door look! He can take me to the prom anytime!I enjoyed this film a lot, and would recommend it. It's a feel good movie set in the days when hamburgers and malts at the local drive in were still good for us, and chasing that elusive girl or guy was still an art.

The Film's Title Is Very Apt
This is a good movie. It tries to tell a story about these young people and does well. It leaves you kind of attached to the main characters and wondering what happens to them after the movie ends. Or at lease it did for me. It's not a blockbuster, but worth watching if it interests you. In fact the main character is a little dangerous, pushing the boundaries of consent somewhat.
