Hello, the system will work under tiles, or any other hard floor covering including laminate. When installing under laminate please ensure the wires are well covered using a self-leveling compound or a thin-set mortar as this improves the heat distribution.

Q: Will this work with schluter ditra membrane ?

Hello, yes the LuxHeat wire diameter is a great fit for Schluter membrane. If you intend to use the Ditra uncoupling membrane we also offer LuxHeat kits without strapping.

Q: Is the grey putty included and if not what it is? What else is needed?

Hello, the kit includes the heating wire, strapping to hold the wire in place, a floor sensor compatible with most thermostats and an alarm or cable monitor for use during installation. You'll need to purchase a self-leveling compound or thin-set to cover the heating system and a thermostat to control the floor temperature. We have LuxHeat kits that included the thermostat but the covering will need to be purchased at your local Home Depot or Lowes.

Q: Can this go under subfloor

Hello, LuxHeat floor heating is only designed to go above the subfloor. When installed above the subfloor the subfloor acts as an insulator and there is minimal downward heat-loss, however if installed below the subfloor the subfloor will restrict the heat to the floor surface. Below the subfloor will also mean there is no heat-sink (mortar or leveling compound) and the cables may overheat.
