This book is hard back with a cover - and the book's hard cover is just a pattern rather than the same as the printed paper cover. That's the only disappointment as a cover is difficult to deal with when you're using the book for recipes. Regardless, this is a lovely book and I really enjoy Rick's down to earth cooking. It has all of the recipes from his long weekends in easy to follow directions.

Excellent recipes. Measurements are all in grams which makes it a little tricky. Still. Worth it.

Not easy to use - I don't like it.
I am a great follower of Rick and have several of his books. A guide to the accompany the programmes it is not, because instead of structured as the series it mixes up the recipes. Also recipes are included that barely got a mention in the programme and did not include recipes that made great play of - e.g. the peach's menu from the end of programme 8. Even worse the menu's in the book often differ in the book from the programme. Some good recipes, but they are difficult to find and although there is an excellent index - if you can find a magnifying glass - I just cannot uderstand why it was set out other than a chapter to a programme. It actually seems to have been an afterthought and published quickly after the series had already started to be screened. My advice download the programmes and make up your own recipes that catch your interest or search out the recipes directly on line - You Tube has a good selection.

Why is this book not organised by destination???
Whilst there is no doubting the quality of the recipes in this book I can’t open it without getting frustrated that the recipes are organised by the spurious idea of meal occasion rather than destination.I am a hundred times more likely to be looking for a meal themed around a group of geographically related ingredients than to be dictated to what I might like to eat on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night. There isn’t even an index listing the recipes by location. What were the publishers thinking?? I am giving my copy away.

One of the Best Cook Books!
Without a doubt one of, if not the best cook book I have in my collection.Rick Stein on top form. He's now my favourite chef (sorry, Mr Martin). The recipes are so doable, and confidence boosting. I lost my passion for cooking for a while. The series, along with this book haven't just rekindled that passion, it's set it ablaze!Buy it! You will not be disappointed.Too many favourites but the ones to get started with:Piri Piri ChickenCod GratinChicken in MarsalaYou'll not need another cook book for a long time.Because of the series we've decided on a long weekend in Copenhagen, later this month.Need more convincing?

Great travelog with a great chef
I must say straight off that it's not the same as flicking through the recipe pages in a physical book, propping it up in the kitchen and having a cheeky glass of red whilst reading the method. However, the kindle version is a close second! Rick Stein is my favourite chef. Without doubt the best and most enthusiastic about cooking ever. Period!Anything he enthuses about is done with so much love and emotion, that I define anyone not to be swept up in his cheery anecdotes, his whimsy and his vast knowledge. This is a great delve into some of the beautiful cities in Europe and the vast array of methods and ingredients used to create some memorable dishes. A great read. Highly recommend.

Odd layout
The content and recipes are quite good, but I have problems with the layout.Instead of listing things under the places visited, they are listed under mealtimes. So if you are keen to see what was tried in Bordeaux, you'll have to search each mealtime chapter for each meal - fumbling through the entire book.Apart from that, quite enjoyable.
