A must for any personal or family first aid kit, especially for the adventurous type
I hunt, fish, hike, camp, and travel, and generally do so on solo trips. I always have a first aid kit on my person and in my vehicles, and I always keep at least one of these combat splints with me. I have used a variation of this product in the past to treat a broken wrist, and it worked perfectly while waiting to get formal medical assistance. This DouHeal Combat Splint is even better than what I had before for a few reasons. First, the foam is a little softer and more comfortable to the touch. Second, I feel that the aluminum used is more pliable or malleable, but still rigid enough when needing to put it to use as a splint. Third, it feels a bit lighter than my other, older splint. I am very happy with this new one and recommend it without hesitation. Fortunately, but unfortunately, I was faced with a situation recently where I had to stabilize my daughter’s arm after she took a fall and landed on her wrist. The splint unrolled with ease, and it was a quick and efficient approach of ensuring her arm was taken care of until we got to the doctor. I did not cut the splint, so I still have it fully intact for future use. I do not have anything negative to say about this first aid device. It has application in the outdoors, in the workplace, at home, in vehicles, in bug-out bags, in personal IFAK, and about anywhere you could imagine. Buy one, or two, or more; you will not regret it when the time comes that you are faced with treating an injury.

A must for every first aid kit
Everyone should have a roll or two of this in their home, camping, or auto first aid kit - truly. If you ever have been the first person on scene at an accident, if you have kids, if you have pets, or if you yourself have ever been hurt and broken a bone after a slip and fall at home {sheepishly raises hand}, having something to make a splint is necessary. Our home kit didn't have this particular item restocked last year when I slipped on ice and broke my wrist, and holy moly, trying to find something appropriate to keep the bones immobile isn't as easy as it sounds when you are in ungodly pain and can't think and your spouse is frantically trying to help while doing ten things at once. We both have rolls in our cars, and have need to use a few times at accident scenes. We also recently used some to help our dog when his leg was injured, as this is a great way to cover and protect the bandaged area as it kept him from worrying at the area. If you hike and camp, splints like this are invaluable since it seems on the longer trips that someone always ends up with a minor injury at some point. My husband also prefers the bright orange color, as it could be used to help locate him if he were to ever get lost (thanks to the fluorescent color. These medical combat splints are very easy to use and take little time to apply to the victim's arm or leg. Even if the person ends up with just a sprain, being able to immobilize the limb or joint can help prevent further injury from occurring. This splint can also help protect large wounds or help to keep gauze/bandages in place and provide additional compression. Scissors are needed to cut the material to a smaller size if you don't need the entire roll.I highly recommend putting this splint in a ziplock bag with a pair of medical scissors (the bent angle kind), a couple of ace wraps, a roll or two of medical gauze, and/or a roll or two of self-adhesive medical tape as these help keep the splint in place. Very basic usage instructions are on a small piece of paper under the plastic wrapper this splint comes in, so this is a first aid supply you should buy an extra to familiarize yourself with and how to use it before such a situation actually arises. The only downside is this brand is around 30% more expensive than some other brands. This particular splint is quite cushiony, which all other brands are not. It also doesn't stink of chemicals or plastic, and that is a big issue we've had with almost every other brand used over the years. The material is waterproof, can be left on during x-rays, and can be cleaned, sterilized, and reused without losing any effectiveness. Then again, the same is true of many other brands. I don't know if a slightly thicker pad and not having that funky smell when you open the shrink-wrap are enough to justify paying the additional cost.

Foam splint with bendable inner aluminum frame.
- I’m very happy to add this to my first aid kit. I go hiking every chance I get and I only carry a standard bandage wrap. I know that if I or a companion stumbles, there is a chance to sprain or seriously injure a leg or arm. Having a high tech splint along will help get someone out of the woods, back to a car and on to medical care.- This splint has aluminum embedded into the length so it’s easy to bend and shape to fit a limb. Sandwiching the frame is a thin, orange-blue, layer of soft foam. Note that this splint is only one part of the system, and a bandage wrap is also necessary to secure the splint to a limb.- Splint is lightweight and weighs only 5.3 ounces (151 grams). It’s 4-1/4” wide, 36” long, and rolls up to a 3” diameter cylinder.Splints and wraps do take up room in a first aid kit, but they are a major component and necessary for any serious trauma. I’m happy to add the DouHeal splint to my hiking gear.
