I've used tempura bits when making onokomiyaki, adding them to the batter seconds before cooking. They add a really nice crunch to the pancake!

These are very hard to come by so it's hard to compare. When I put them in my Okonomiyaki, it tasted "ok". I think it tasted better when used as a topping instead.If I had to compare the taste, I'd say it tastes like a shrimp flavored crumbled cracker. Not too thrilled for the price however.

So, there's this korean brand nongshim that makes udon with these little tempura balls. It's a bit too salty for me but I love these things so I bought this to throw in with different udons and it's exactly what I wanted. Awesome in asian soups.It's probably fine to eat solo as well, they have a light shrimp flavor.

Definitely a gotta have in any takoyaki recipe. Some things are just basic and this one.
