Good Quality For The Money
I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons. First, to dissuade inexperienced builders. Look closely and you will see the bridge and saddle mount holes are not drilled. This is done for a reason and shows close attention to detail by the manufacturer. Locating the bridge in relation to the neck is of utmost importance for the final setup of the guitar. And locating the bridge and saddle and drilling the locating holes is a very involved job and not for the uninitiated or novice builder. Bex Gears is actually doing builders a favor by allowing them to locate the bridge. My second reason is a much simpler one. Okoume is not one of my favorite woods for guitar building. It is one of the cheaper and more plentiful woods, which is why it is used. And its tonal merits are hotly debated. I just personally don't care for its looks, feel, or working properties. That being said, it worked out great for the project I used it on.

body worked perfectly for my project
This body worked out perfectly for my project. The BC Rich neck naturally pairs with the SG-style body. I wanted to use my Schecter string-through bridge, so a body without pre-drilled "tune-o-matic" mounting holes was exactly what I was looking for. Take your time with your measurements. The axe plays and sounds amazing (Seymour Duncan invader takes care of that). A nice translucent black stain will look great over the okoume. Still waiting on some knobs (also from Amazon). Finished project in 2nd picture.

a great first kit, if you can site the bridge properly
I bought this as a guitar kit to mess up on and learn things with, and it works well for that. It's basswood [this review referred to a previous version of the product], much thinner than a normal SG, rather shorter in length, and you need to carefully find a bolt-on neck to work with it, but it's cheap, and a great learning tool. Took a while to fill and sand back some of the grain, which was porous and had some chip-out, although in general it was well shaped and fairly well sanded. Basswood is quite soft and takes scratches very easily, as well. The most important thing to note is that neither the bridge bushing holes nor tail piece holes are pre-drilled for you, so you must situate them *precisely* if you ever want it to play in tune. That makes it a challenge for the first-time builder - and given that it is a non-standard size, non-mahogany blank, more experienced people probably will want to pass. It can be done as a first timer, though, particularly if you have experience with woodworking to begin with, but take the time to study up on the process. I wouldn't even attempt it without a quality brad-point bit and drill press.

Made my project 1963 gibson neck
I had a gibson neck. I had from project I had purchased a few yrs back. The # dated it 63 or 67 so the SG was the new las paul. For that time period an when I stripped the neck the original color was pelum blue.

Mahogany body (bolt on)
I thought for sure it wasn't gonna be mahogany but what showed up at my door was a very nice mahogany body without really any tool marks. This is a bolt on body for anyone who can't tell. Exactly what I was looking for for my Parts G

May need to drill pick up wire channel out a little bit wider than it is
Good quality body, only issue I had (may have been due to my particular pickups) is that the pickup wire channel was too narrow and I had to drill it out more (which to my demise I messed up the first time)

Impressed!
Quality looks better than expected. 2pc body with nice grain, no defects. Neck slot is perfect tight fit to the neck, tiny bit of sanding required to make fit snug and perfectly. Definitely pleased with this purchase. Unfinished bare wood with no sealer etc.
