Shop Fox D2722 Mandrel for Sanding Drum Kit

This was perfect. I was having issues with my spindle sander, and when I looked at new ones, they were so ridiculously expensive. So I then thought about making my drill press into my spindle sander since I had both my old spindle sander, and oscillating sander on the opposite side of a flip cart.I fiddled with different ways using threaded rods, and plywood rings. But they just weren't very good. So I used this mandrel and it's pieces, and it turned out perfect after I matched up some bearings and put in an adapter to my drill press table.All in all, it's doing great.

Mandrel is sturdy and true in the drill chuck with no off-center vibration. It did not come with a lock washer to keep the nut from coming loose during use. And as noted in my review of the rubber sanding drums/sleeves it is to be used with, it cannot be tightened down hard enough to keep the sanding sleeves from slipping on the drums.

tool works as described. Despite length, is plenty rigid for sanding inside curves on hardwood. The 1" diameter won't tighten enough to firmly hold the sanding drum in place. It walks up or down. Can easily be repositioned. I will need to find a washer of the right ID and OD to get a little more squish on the rubber hub to grip the drum more firmly. Despite problem, still think it's worth the price.

Bought as a gift for my dad and it's exactly what he wanted.

Works great with drill press saves a lot of hand sanding time!

No need to spend extra money on this, it comes with the machine.

Needed another one just like the other one.

Took the mandrel out of the package. The nut was just barely threaded on the end of the mandrel. Tried to screw it on. It jammed in less than one turn. Looked at the threads, looked at the nut. No damaged threads on either one. Looked to be the right size. Started measuring. Sure enough, the mandrel has metric threads (M8 x 1.25), the nut is SAE (5/16 x 18). Off to the hardware store to buy the right size nut.Totally unprofessional on the part of Shop Fox. Face it, they KNEW that was the wrong sized nut when they tried to put it on, but they sent it out anyway. Couldn't bother to take the wrong nut off, toss it aside, and put the right one on. Probably takes 3 seconds. Instead I have to waste half an hour to go get the right part.

Didn’t even get use it. Upon tightening the thread bolt sheared off. Junk do not buy.
