The Great Florida Seminole Trail: Complete Guide to Seminole Indian Historic and Cultural Sites

Interesting & Informative
Well I admit I am already a fan of Doug Alderson's books. Doug is a storyteller, a very factual and interesting storyteller. He has a way of presenting historical facts in an engaging way. This book is no different. The Great Florida Seminole Trail awakens you to the struggle for survival in our early Florida history. It saddens me that we, as a people, treated those that were here before us in such a self centered & greedy way. Yet encourages me that despite their adversaries, the Seminole people adapted and survive. Doug has done it again! I am already recommending it to ALL my friends.

The unknown Trail of Tears
This is a story and dear to the author, Doug Alderson's heart. He did his homework and takes us back for a comprehensive history of not just the Seminoles but other Florida tribes. If you are interested in Florida history, do not miss this one!

A cut-above the usual guide book
For those who wish a deeper experience while visiting Florida and for Floridians wishing to connect better with the breadth of the state's history, Alderson's The Great Florida Seminole Trail, offers an easily doable start. By focusing on existing sites which are accessible to the public, one can visit the closest site and read Alderson's account of the importance of that site to not just Seminole and other descendants of Florida's earliest settlers, but also of escaped slaves, conquering and missionizing Spaniards, southern expansionists. Parents wishing to connect with their children in more lasting ways than Florida's theme parks, may want to use this book to explore the sites and to learn and discuss with them how cultures, power, defeat and accommodation works in America. This is not a linear narrative, but suggest other interpretations of an event -- fine fodder for thought and discussion.
