After the Crash
I liked the theme of the book and the writing was excellent. I did think the characters were a little far fetched in credibility however. It was the first book by this author I had read and I bought it after hearing an excellent review about the author and the book on the radio as well as in a newspaper. Unfortunately it didn't "grab" me from page one till the end. I found it more like an adventure story than a thriller.

Readable
This book was readable and when I ticked 'full of surprises' (above), it's not that this was a particularly enjoyable aspect of the book but more that the plot seemed to get more and more complicated with each chapter. The book had my attention in the early stages but too many twists and turns and it began to become unbelievable. The characters became more unrealistic and Marc (I think) managed to work out more about this case in a few hours than anyone else did in 18 years! As far as I could work out he had far less facts than I did so impressive / unbelievable!

Delightful
What a great twist of a tale. A delight for those of us who have traveled through Paris and the countryside! A sense of generosity throughout the story was unique and pleasantly woven into the characters! HighlyRecommend

Great read
I love this author. He is a popular French author, and I've read his books in both French and English. I feel that sometimes the translation to English could be improved, but other than that, I love his books. "Black water lillies" is another one of his books, probably the best, check it out.

After the Crash
Just an amazing story with many twists and turns. The mystery builds throughout this fast paced novel. Masterfully written to keep you guessing the ending. The characters are so well developed, you feel that Lylie, Marc, and Malvina are real. You feel their pain as they struggle with the puzzle life has given them.

This Book Sold a MILLION Copies???
The premise was a good one, but the plot moves at the speed of a glacier. It needed better editing. There were times that I totally lost interest and wanted the mystery solved.

A light mystery that is a page turner
A plane crashes in 1980 , a baby appears to be the only surviverTwo sets of Grandparents at war for the child. The detective, truly a unreliable narrator. Twists and turns ,a beautiful background and of course a live story. A fun read

One of the best novels I have ever read.
Mysteries are the genre I read most of. This may be the best one I have ever read. A baby is the only survivor of a plane crash and two families try to discover which she belongs to. Told from various perspectives it is brilliantly paced and plotted. I just finished reading it and tears are streaming down my face. Both from the plot resolution and from the fact that I don't know when I will read such a beautiful novel again.

A good read
The book flips between the narration of the story and the pages of the private detective's account which is a kind of flashback. You don't know how it will all end until you have nearly finished the book. I enjoyed it!

Clever and page turning
This is a crime/suspense/thriller novel and an excellent read. The premise is that in 1980 a plane crashes on its way from Turkey to Paris in the Alps. Everyone on board is killed except a young baby thrown clear and found beside the wreck. The problem is that there are two small babies supposed to be on the plane and for various reasons it is impossible to say which one this is (we are before DNA testing of course at this date). What results is a court case the results of which and the aftermath are told in the form of a diary written by a detective Crédule Grand-Duc which he completes eighteen years later just as he is about to commit suicide because he has never been able to resolve this problem – at that point, even as he loads the gun, he realises something that has escaped him all this time and the diary stops. The rest of the story, in between the diary entries, is told by various other characters to whom we are introduced and who all have a stake in the outcome of the identification of the child. It becomes imperative to know what Grand-Duc realised and we begin to understand that the failure to find out about her origins has warped the lives of all those involved with the child, even peripherally. We know that there is a solution but what it is does not become apparent until the end. Actually, I guessed what the probable result was and I was correct but I certainly didn’t anticipate all the twists and turns in this cleverly plotted novel. The author manages to make the characters interesting and the story compelling rather than just concentrating on making the plot clever. I certainly didn't know what the characters were going to do as the story progressed and that increased the tension. It's such a clever idea and the ramifications of the crash are well thought through. I liked the switching from one narrator to another to give different points of view and to reveal things which might otherwise be hidden.A great read.
