Great boom, iffy clamp.
I bought this boom mic because I wanted something that would help free up my desk for space. I'd originally been using a small desk stand, but I discovered 1) that I was bumping the stand constantly while trying to use the mouse, and 2) I was constantly having to lean into the mic for it to pick up my voice because I couldn't get the mic close enough to my mouth at a proper gain level. This stand is great. It allows me to swivel the mic around, move it, and put it within inches of my mouth, even if I want to stand up or lean back in my chair. There are 2 things that are holding me off from giving this 5 stars:1) The shaft that the microphone screws onto is a little short; my Nady pop filter mounting bracket is a little bigger and it won't fit. I ended up having to mount it to the top of the arm instead of the mic shaft. This isn't totally Heil's fault, but it kinda sucks that I have to mount it the way that I'm mounting it...2) The clamp that the arm mounts into is a little weak in its clamping power. If I start moving the arm in and out, I can see the clamp wobbling around on the desk. It's ok, but if you can, get one of the more permanent mounts that Heil makes and permanently mount it to the wall or your desk.Other than that? It's a great mic. Holds the weight of a Blue Snowball mic with no issues, and the springs are actually really quiet!

Rock Solid // Clamp Not an Issue
After trying out the much more expensive $120 Rode microphone boom (first one clicked when it was moved, second one was bent and malformed :: both returned), I turned my eye to some thing less expensive but also backed by a solid name. Heil also have an expensive boom (looks like th exact same version I'd been disappointed in with Rode just stamped Heil) so I went for the steel and exposed spring version. Arrived and setup yesterday and first impressions are excellent. The boom is rock solid, slightly stiff to keep my microphone in place, yet easy enough to manipulate with one hand. There is no spring "boing" sounds as I move the boom the the construction is precise. The clamp is smaller but also rock solid, fitting the boom very well. All in all, this was the boom I'd been looking for and am quite pleased. If something negative comes up and I continue using this item, I will post an update. Buy with confidence, no apparent issues.

I love this thing.
I have a Heil mic so I needed to get a Microphone Boom for it. It served me so well that I bought another one for my Blue mic. It comes with a standard mount, so any mic with a connector can work with this arm.

Solid, value, performs as we'd hoped it would
We broadcast a live streaming show about collectibles called "Cup O' Joe", every other Sunday morning, and these Heil HB-1s have done a great job. Easily mounted, easily positioned, and inexpensive, they've been giving us exactly what we needed as far as holding the mics where we need them to be. They also give a look of professionalism to our studio that means a lot to our viewers. For more sensitive applications, I'd recommend a suspension mount, or some foam rubber wedges to quiet the tension springs; other than that, these may be the best value out there for most applications where a positioned mike is essential.

Has worked well with several of my mics
I purchased this model instead of the more expensive Heil boom and am quite pleased with it. I am not that happy with the C-clamp mount however as it looks like it could easily break if you tend to tighten it too much, which is why I only gave it four stars. I have tried several mics with it and currently have a Sennheiser MD421 attached and all have worked will with it.

Exceeded my expectations!
It was either this or the Rode boom, which costs $30 more. I'm so glad I chose this one. The mic stand on my work desk took up too much space. I just needed a basic mic boom to clear up my cluttered desk. It seems very sturdy and well built. I'm sure it could hold up to 2 1/2-3lbs. There's no cord management, but it's not really necessary as I'm using it with a Samson C03U USB condenser mic which takes just a Standard-B type (square shape) USB cable. I keep the cable secured with a couple twist ties. Works great. The length of the boom is 40" as described. Installation took five minutes. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Will not work with the Wall mount bracket.
I bought this model because, according to the page, the vertical mounting bracket was recommended with it. There is no way mechanically that this boom will work with the wall mount. If installed, the leverage of pulling out the boom would rip the mount from the wall. I bought this packet together as part of the equipment I wanted in the sound booth I was building. Unfortunately too much time has passed in the construction to allow me to return one or both items.

It works well, but the chrome part that connects ...
It works well, but the chrome part that connects to the microphone screw on is actually copper and if that part is scuffed then expect most of the plating to come off. Also the desk clamp has a brass insert that will wear down over time, but doesn't hamper functionality.
