The seller said mine is defective. The seller gives me full refund and asked me to buy a new one.Great customer service!!After one time use it was broken when cleaning the wire with water.I was a Japanese chef at a Michelin starred restaurant in Japan and had over 15years fishing experience. So I know how to Ikejime and Shinkeijime.

Good flexible wire, but not much thought to design
This is the first Ikejime wire I saw on Amazon that's not made by the Japanese manufacturer. I think the Hookook company is banking on the trend and thus made a similar product, without as much of the expertise as the Japanese when it comes to using these Ikejime tools.First of all, it is quite expensive in comparison, but I figured I would try it out anyways. You could get the original Ikejime wire and spike from the Japanese company for less than the Hookook wire alone. This wire does not include the hollow brain spike, so you have to purchase it separately or make your own (with some stainless steel tubing from the Hobby store and 3D print a TPU handle). The quality of the wire is decent. The diameter is consistently 1.20+0.02mm when measured with a digital caliper, slightly on the thick side and suitable for fish with thicker spines like salmon and stockier saltwater fish. It is very soft and flexible, almost like aluminum wire, but even if you bend it at a 90 degree angle where you feel like permanent deformation takes place, it springs back relatively quickly to roughly a straight line. I think it's a decent memory wire, and it is the main selling point of this product. Other than that, it doesn't really have much detail to it, and is kind of slippery to use, with a smooth slick exterior. That is also a rudimentary mistake, since it will have a more difficult time destroying the spinal nerves. The Japanese version have grooves on the surface of the wire that improve grip and destroy the spinal nerves better. You can do some modifications by grinding some rough patches around the tip of the wire for better effect.Overall, this is just a length of memory wire. It's not complete enough to be marketed as an Ikejime tool in my opinion, but it will work with some modifications. You still need a hollow core brain spike to even feed the wire, unless you cut off the tail and insert through there.

Best Ikejime wire choice this listing is MEDIUM size
These may be a little expensive vs some (xtrada) or diy (don't listen to the piano/guitar wire people advising your diy attempts you will be sorry)These hookook Nitonol (titanium memory alloy) wires are DEFINITELY worth it.I Have owned xtrada (stainless) and seen but not used aftco and miscellaneous others. To be fair while I do have extensive experiece with ikejime; these I've only played with them at this point and not used. I haven't been fishing in a bit but I am gearing up for a lot of fishing and catch and cook.Vs DIY...People say just get some piano wire or guitar wire. If you are in saltwater just dont do this and in freshwater i wouldnt unless you are just a curious type to try ikejime before investing. And can get an ice pick asYou can purchase Nitonol Titanium wire and rig a diy yourself... you're only saving about 1/2 price on just the wire plus you would want some crimping and probably shrink wrapping and some sort of handle.... just not worth it imho.Vs XtradaI have used the Xtrada ikejime tools and yes they may be cheaper for the spike and wire but they have glaring problems.Had a couple mid and large sizes. The hollow shaft is not as effective as using a larger spike and it's also not as destructive to the brain (very, very important if you care about the point of buying ikejime products or being humane to fish)On my Xtrada The plastic handle broke on both the brain spikes and the shaft of smaller one bent... so threw out and the other was lost/stolenThe stainless Xtrada wires don't have good termination end on them and they are much less ridged (very bad for running through fish,) are relatively easy to kink/deform and aren't as manageable and corrosion resistant as are these Hookook Titanium memory alloy wires.VS AftcoAftco is priced higher and I don't think anywhere near as nice. Brain spike for some of aftco (the blue handle) are cheaper than the hookook wooden but it's basically a icepick. I purchased an ice pick before getting the Hookook wood handled brain spike and both are decent but I'll probably always bring the hookook with me.It says way down In the spec table this is medium. This really should be in title.
