So close, yet totally unacceptable.
Well, I like this uke. But it is horribly set up. Sort of like the parts were just bolted together and thrown into a box.As arrived, it is not playable, and I do not know if it can be made playable. It is possible that re-cutting the nut will solve the problems, but if not that, then there are misplaced frets.I do not see good options for sending it back, or I would. Because once I get too deep into things like replacing the nut, I will have probably messed up the warranty, anyway.I am very disappointed. As I said, I really like this uke, and except for this severe tuning issue (and crappy machine tuners) I am happy with it.But as is, I would recommend everyone to simply stay away----------Update, 1 week laterI just got my uke back from the shop. A very good luthier -who has been a friend of mine for many years - went through it. He reset the neck, recut the nut, adjusted everything, and with a new set of strings, he gave me back a playable instrument, when last week I gave him one that could not be played.I still have a little work to do. Most of the fret ends need to be dressed, they feel like rubbing your hands across barbed wire. Not quite that bad, but if you were for some reason playing wearing silk gloves, they would absolutely get ripped.Still, I like the sound and size of this thing. I have it set up now as a tenor, while I wanted a baritone. I may restring it with thicker strings once my temper goes down. This is a little below the quality I would have expected for the $129 substitutes. I had hoped to get a good product for less than the $500 to $600 for a Risa. But if you are up for an adventure, and are not impressed by pretty fit & finish (at least not enough to pay for it) this may work for you.But consider it a project, sort of a kit.
