The First Sister-Maia
This is the first story of 6 adopted sisters from various places around the world. There is much history and depth of background to the story. Maia is on a journey to discover her heritage. In the process she discovers a love story that incorporates the creation of Cristo in Rio, Brazil. The detail of the history was well written and kept me engaged. Maia has personal growth toward the end and her own love story develops.

A page turner… well written and fascinating historical fiction about places, and cultures I love.
The stories of many people with an unknown common bond are beautifully woven together. It is also an interesting story of relationships.

An evocative story set in exotic Rio
Maia D'Apliese is the eldest of six girls adopted by the wealthy billionaire Pa Salt. After his sudden death the girls get together at their childhood home, a secluded mansion on the shores of Lake Geneva. There they learn about their father’s legacy and find clues that will allow them discover their ancestral origins. As with most of Lucinda Riley’s books the story is told over 2 timelines one set in the past and one in the present. In the book we follow Maia on her journey to uncover her roots, which takes her to Brazil and a dilapidated mansion in a wealthy suburb of Rio de Janeiro. As the story unfolds we learn from the past how Maia’s life is connected to Issabella Bonifacio and how the construction of the famous Christ statue on Corcovado Mountain in Rio is part her heritage. In the present we see how Maia copes with the loss of her adopted father while coming to grips with the knowledge of her familial beginnings. A journey of self-discovery, of learning to trust oneself and others in the process of healing. The story is vividly described, the characters are complex but interesting. They display real emotions like love and fear while demonstrating loyalty, passion and compassion, making them convincing and easy to relate to.From a historical perspective the book is also set in an interesting period in Rio de Janeiro. The 1920’s to 1930’s, the heydays, when coffee exports were booming at the time the Christ statue was under construction. This is the first book in the Seven Sisters series. Each book can be read separately as the plot concludes nicely at the end. Some teasers are left unanswered which helps set up the next book in the series but without leaving the reader hanging or forcing you to get the next book in the series.Overall this is an interesting evocative story. The book is well written and the story flows well. Fans of historical fiction and woman’s fiction will love it.

Slow - time jumping that gets to embedded into details to tell you the story
The plot is intriguing but the book bounces around in time and each time it does it just gets way to deeply involved in ridiculous amounts of detail so when you bounce to the next time period you can't even remember what was going on or who the characters are. I got the audible version and this just made it worse the reader was slow I drove 1/2 an hour and only progressed a few pages. The reader was terrible at accents and should just stop doing them. A friend loved the book and is reading the whole series, I am going to wait a while then try the next one to see if it gets better. Note to the author really - if you are time jumping we don't need all the minuscule detail in every era - stick to what we need to know in the story - if not your book just gets drug down.

I Want To Be Part Of Their Family!!
Wow! Where do I begin?? While perusing Amazon for my next book, I ordered Book 2 not knowing there were 8 books! I was hooked right at the beginning and couldn’t put it down! When I realized it was Book 2 of 8, I immediately ordered all the rest before I finished the one I had.I have never been more captivated by books like I was with this series! The bonus and best surprise was that they were named after the star system The Pleiades!! I have been an amateur astronomer since 1969 when Neil Armstrong first stepped foot on the moon. I was hooked! It was that same hook that got me with this series! When I got to the last book, Atlas. The story of Pa Salt I tried to read it slowly but I couldn’t. I was mesmerized by it because it tied the whole series together. All the secrets were told. How Atlas came to adopt the 7 babies, how he found Ma, George and Claudia, his real name and so much more.I read each book in 5 days, only because work got in the way. I didn’t want to put them down. How Lucinda Riley thought this up and executed it is amazing to me. All while struggling through cancer (I was so saddened to hear of her death) for selfish reasons. I’m sad for her family, but mostly sad that she won’t write anymore book as I’ve since read all of them. She was an amazing storyteller and writer. At first I didn’t dig her multi generational going back and forth in the story. I’ve since come to love it.I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend reading this series. You will not be disappointed.I just finished Fleat House and will start reading the series again!!I want to be one of the sisters, but what shall I call myself??? Hmmm… the short sister (I’m 5’) the deer sister (they come when I call them).I think I’ll go with The Old Sister! Please read this series. It will blow you away!Pinky Swear!! 10 STARS for the D’Apelise Family!

A charming, clever, warm, and elegant tale
An engaging story told through beautifully illuminated characters. The story of a fictional romance and glamour is set in a historically and geographically accurate landscape which provides a satisfying substance to an escapist tale
