Guero

A favorite from years ago
Guero was my favorite album when I was in college. It's hard to believe this album came out in 2005 when I was in my second year. About a month ago, I decided to purchase a vinyl copy before they all went out of print. It arrived in very good condition. This double album was printed in the EU and comes without shrink wrap. It has about 3-4 songs on each disc. The liner notes are printed on the inside cover and each disc is wrapped is in a clear plastic sleeve. I'm assuming it was pressed in 2005 if only because of the date on the packaging. I could be wrong about that.I have not played this record yet to check it's sound quality and fiddle with the tones, only about five seconds on the opening track to see if the fire was there or not. It's there. The the only disappointment is that this version does not have "Send A Message to Her," "Chain Reaction," or "Clap Hands." These three songs, as I remember, made the original what it was.

Brilliant Beckie
This is the best Beck CD yet. And the best CD of 2005 by far. Beck is happy again, praise Jesus. Where to start ... For openers, Track 1 E-Pro featuring Beastie Boys riffs overlaid with classic Beck - perfect. Next: title song Que Onda - again - no doubt it's Beck, with a patina of South of the Border. What's not to like? How about the 3rd track - the 60s pop tune Girl - can you keep your foot from tapping? Skip ahead to Track 6 Earthquake Weather - trippy intro that segues into a 70's R&B-cum-Musak easy rhythm number about death and destruction in denial. Now Hell Yes - hip hop a la Beck. My beat is correct, he says. Yeah. Skip over to Go It Alone. Reminds you Fiona Apple's A Mistake, on A Pawn ...? Farewell Ride is up next. Dreamy slide guitar funeral dirge. Rental Car la creme de la creme sounds Nirvanaesque ... Lithium or Polly or .. something. Then lapsing into Beatles - Love Love Love ... is all you need. Woah - is that a 50's la -la perky girl chorus? It's that wacky Petra Haden. And finally, Emergency Exit, sounding like something off Oh Brother Where Art Thou - all funky slide and gospel chorus. Well, in short, if you love music, and you're only buying one CD this year, this is the one.

Beck at his best...
My personal favourite of Beck's work. Tight and focused, from the unrelenting rock of "E-Pro" to the mesmerising groove of "Go it Alone".... creative, interesting, and fun album.

A problem, but not a huge one, for older DVD players
I had already heard enough of this album to know that the Dolby 5.1 would be awesome, and I bought this version for that reason, obviously. I also knew from the other reviews that it has trouble working on some DVD players. It freezes on two songs on my aging (7 yrs old?) DVD player, but sounds great on the rest of the songs. The DVD plays straight through on my MacBook DVD player even though it is also quite old now. So overall I am glad I bought this version, and know that when I upgrade DVD players I will be able to play it through. Would definitely get 5 stars if not for technological issues, the album is amazing.

Solid Introductory Beck Album
I'd always been aware of Beck. What really pushed me to give his music a shot was when I'd discovered he wrote all the music played by the fictional "Sex Bob-Omb" from the recent movie, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. The music in the movie shined, especially the song played by Sex Bob-Omb. It was raw like punk, yet was lyrically poetic. I was hooked!Anyway, after a quick Google search, the name Beck was suddenly attached to the songs. At first, I searched for a "Best of" album with no luck. Then I remembered one of his songs that was a hit that I was fond of. I'm sure everyone and their grandma has heard the song "E-Pro", be it at a sports stadium, on the radio, on MTV, etc... Other singles from this album I was less aware of ("Girl", "Hell Yes", "Black Tambourine") are all great in their own respect. In fact, I fail to think of a single low point on this album. As my first full Beck album, it has done its job. It thoroughly entertains me on every listen, yet leaves me craving more.

Ordered a cd. Only got the CD case...
I got the CD case yesterday, and went to open it today after I got off work, and BAM... There's no d*** CD in it at all.. And, of course, it's too complicated to return something for a measly $11, but I don't want the refund. I just want my CD! So I guess a case is what I'm stuck with...

Endless talent on show once more
Beck Hanson has never failed to deliver on any of his recordings and this is no exception. Guerro is just as smart, energetic, eclectic, diverse and on the money as anything he has produced before. Obviously he knows what he does well and he sticks to it. Some might say he doesn't push the boundaries enough (for instance, there is no thrash/death/speed metal or the like - not sure thats such a bad thing) but as a musician, whose primary focus is the indie pop genre, he is superlative. Everything about the man screams talent; from his choice of wonderful album artwork to the thoughtful, witty lyrical content of his song writing. I hadn't bought a Beck album for a very long time as much of my listening enjoyment, over the past 10 years, has progressed to the individual MP3 downloads.Having recently rediscovered my 70's/80's Vinyl collection I thought I would invest in a few recent vinyl issues of some of my favourite CD-era artists. Not knowing what to expect from new 180g vinyl I have to say that listening to this album the quality on my Pro-ject Xperience 2 is a good as my Marantz CD63-Ki Sig CD player could ever reproduce. Package is average; only unprinted plain paper inner sleeves with plastic liners. Gatefold outer sleeve has reproduced lyrics. This could have been a little more excleusive by producing more artwork on the inner sleeves. I still give it full marks though as these points are a bit nit-picky.

Great album. Terrible jumpy pressing
This is a good fun Beck album but I have had two vinyl copies, both with faults. The first one was warped and skipped a lot. Also a horrible distortion on the bass drum that isn't there in the digital versions. The second version I received as a replacement sounds better. It also skips unless I change the weight on my turntable arm, but the sound is generally better. Side one is not perfect but the rest is fine. Also, this is a gatefold record, not a box set!Be prepared when buyin this that you might get a dud and have to swap it.

great record, if you like Beck you will like this, gatefold 2 x LP's plays 45rpm but, the record arrived without shrink wrap, skips and i've returned it. Beware you may receive a bad pressing like others have. I will buy this again and hope i get a good copy next time.
