I thought this would help protect my deck from Heat but it's more just for Sparks. I have a raised portable fire pit but the heat off the bottom still made it through and burnt my deck. I switched to a large concrete patio stone with this underneath it

Works great. 36” is the perfect size for an 18” propane campfire.No problem sitting fireplace on a deck carpet.

This mat is adequate to prevent heat damage from small cinders and sparks. However, i would not recommend it be used with wood or charcoal fire pits that have little to no clearance between the coals/heat source and the mat. The mat is not thick enough to prevent heat damaging your composite or wood deck in that situation. It might be ok when the heat source is small and is separated by at least 8 inches and has ventilation between the bottom of the heat source and the mat.

Great for under a propane fire, or stopping a ember from a fire with a large air gap. These are NOT made to build a fire on a wood deck. Add concrete pavers first, or brick
