Flavorful, Fresh, Delightful, and Exciting Mixes
As someone who makes most of their own spices (most of the time), I am usually a bit tough when rating the mix, quality, taste, and ingredients of ones that I buy. This brand and these spice mixes surprised me with their flavor and in their quality ingredients. All the seasonings are vegan (expect the Jalapeno Lime Ranch it has milk powders), and they are all made with everyday herbs, no added fillers, they are MSG free, with no artificial anything added, GMO free an made in the USA. Plus, the containers are recyclable or reusable. This order contains six different seasonings mixes. The set includes (in my preference order because why not):1) Everything But the Taco (1.3 ounces): this mix has a lot of ingredients. I was a bit unsure because I thought many of the flavors would get lost, but they don’t, they stand out, create a wonderful flavor that brings brightness, and spice to whatever you put this on. I think this would be amazing on fish for tacos. I tasted this on a bit of fried tofu, and I have to say that might be my new favorite way of eating it. The flavors just blew me away. I would like a large bottle of just this seasoning.2) Spicy Baja (2.2 ounces): this mix was very flavorful and a taste I am not sure I have had before. The seasoning is not too salty, it has a bright fresh flavor, and I would use this on many dishes to make the main ingredient stand out.3) Everything But the Guacamole (1.7 ounces): this mix has a more subtle light flavor to is but its sill was a pleasant taste. I sprinkled this on my fried tofu, and it was good, I just think this mix needs to be mixed with a base like sour cream or mayo. It has a nice mix of flavors and I think the lime juice really adds the best punch.4) Jalapeno Lime Ranch (1.4 ounces): I was surprised (yet again) by this mix, it has a wonderful “garden picked” fresh taste for a ranch and only a hint of jalapeno and spice. Mix this like you would ranch or add this on top of a lovely mild fish or even a pasta and transform the dish to something fun and bright. This was more on the lighter, milder taste for me, not as bold but still delicious.5) Chipotle Seas Salt (3.1 ounces): wow! This sea salt is not overly salty so you can apply liberally, however it does have a nice kick to the spice and a bold, strong smoky flavor that is sure to please all spice lovers. This is amazing on eggs!6) Green Jalapeno Sea Salt (2.6 ounces): this mix is nice; it is on the milder side and one I would use if I wanted a bit of “hidden” flavor added. It has a nice soft jalapeno flavor that does add a nice touch but for me (and maybe I didn’t mix it well) it was a stronger salt (not salty) flavor then a jalapeno flavor. Each of these spices come in a magnetic jar with both a shaker and wide opening for desired amount use. I liked that the spices come packaged in plastic sealed bags inside the tins, this insures maximum freshness and no leaking during delivery. The labels are easy to read and contain a lot of information. The verity in tis set is great and they all cane be used for so many different dishes or ingredients that you could continue to experiment for ages with them. It will be fun to mix and match vegetables, proteins, and different flavors with unexpected dishes to liven up my kitchen.I think this brand as a lot going for it, I would love to be able to buy these seasoning mixes in larger containers and single flavors. I have a few favorites already and know they will be the first to go. I also think that these would make a great gift for the food lover, cook or experimenter. This cost (at the time of this post) $6.16 a tin. Now for me that is mighty expensive (I have a smaller food budget now). I don’t know that I would be able to buy these regularly, but I would certainly buy these as a gift of a special “fun bonus” occasionally. That said, the quality it there, the support of a small business, a USA business and the list of pronounceable and fresh ingredients make this buy well worth the experience. I am excited to try any more seasonings that this brand makes up in the future.

Really nice spice set
I really like this set of spices, the cans each have a magnet on them, allowing you to store them in a stack without the cans falling. Or, if you have a metal strip attached to the inside of your cabinets (e.g. Alton Brown kitchen), you can store them vertically on the door of your cupboards. In fact, I think the cans themselves are the stars of this show. The lids of the cans have a clever slot in them that allow you to dial in the amount of spice that comes out. I tested each and found that it worked great for the salts but that the small holes in the side trapped some of the larger spice mixes (like the jalapeno ranch), effectively separating the larger spices from the smaller ones. But the true test of a spice mix is how good the spice flavors are.Jalapeno lime ranch - It is ok, there is a very slight ranch flavor and an even more slight hint of lime, but I sprinkled it on some grilled chicken, and it was delicious. I wish the jalapeno were a little more present in the flavor instead of just some "heat" on the back of the palette. This would almost certainly be better if you also add your own fresh lime juice and diced jalapeno. But I think it would be terrific with chicken or fish.Spicy Baja - excellent flavor and heat. almost exactly what you would expect from a Baja mix, very Californian in flavor. I put some on my tilapia for excellent fish tacos.Everything but the Taco - similar to baja except with a little more coriander and cardomamom flavors. This is less subtle than the baja flavor and I wish it had a bit more cumin in it, but is otherwise perfect for seasoning ground meat.Green Jalepeno sea salt - Mostly salt with a slight burn on the backside. I think this was the most disappointing spice in the mix simply because I would prefer to salt and spice separately. To get the kind of spicy kick I wanted from this spice, I would have to wind up over-salting.Chipotle Sea salt - very similar to the jalapeno sea salt, but with a nice smokey flavor. I liked this more than the green jalapeno and could see this as a finishing spice to kick up some chicken or fish dishes.Guacamole Seasonng - I tried this by making guacamole. I think it provides a nice heat and is a convenient way to have an all-in-one spice for quick quac. But I also think this spice would shine as a flavor enhancer for any meat or vegetable dish. I wound up just sprinkling it on summer squash and oven roasting and loved it.Overall, this is a really nice spice set. I think a few of them err on the side of too much salt (I'm talking to you lime ranch and flavored sea salts), but given the great packaging and convenience of this spice set, you can't go wrong with this purchase. Gustus Vitae Artisanal Spice Blends are The Bomb!
Gustus Vitae nails the Mexican flavors in this Taste of Mexico Artisanal Spice Blends six pack. This would be a great gift for seasoned chefs, those just starting out in the kitchen or those who just like to play around and try different recipes. Definitely check out the brands website for recipes and ideas or just use your own imagination, you can not lose either way. These spice blends are fresh and aromatic and their is something for every one, I love that they kept the heat level of these spices from mild to medium, it is always easier to add heat that it is to take it away, so that is a very smart move on their part. Some people mix up spice with heat, you could have a lot of flavor with different spices without it burning your mouth. And that is what they accomplished with these spices, they went for flavor that pops and not burns or numbs your taste buds. I am not sure which of these are my favorites, I only know I can not pick just one. The flavor the jalapeño lime ranch is divinely unique, I added that to sautéed chicken also with the green jalapeño seat salt, with veggies for a fajita type meal. The everything guacamole is perfect for avocado toast. I have not had a chance to cook with the others yet but l am loving the aroma of the blends and am looking forward to cooking with them. The spices are sealed in plastic bags inside the containers for freshness, the little canisters stack up on each other nicely held together with the magnet on the bottom, an added bonus is they stick th the refrigerator for easy grabbing while prepping your recipe. These would make a great addition to any kitchen.
