Easy, Real Recipes for a LoSo Lifestyle
This book is utterly irreplaceable in my collection. I bought it about a month ago and have used it for at least 2 meals a week since then. The recipes are easy and the ingredients aren't completely crazy and hard to find. Plus, my family has enjoyed them along with me. I would recommend it to anyone getting ready to start their LoSo life or even to seasoned veterans. (Make sure you also check out the website so TONS of other recipes)

Good and easy low sodium recipes
Have high blood pressure and ordered this as I started out on the low sodium journey. Most of the recipes are quite good and easily tweakable. I would recommend this to the beginner. Try the shrimp jambalaya first! Yum!

A wonderful, must-have cookbook if you are living a lower sodium lifestyle
This is a great low sodium recipe book. After finding out from my doctor that I needed to start living a lower sodium lifestyle due to my health, I searched the internet from end to end trying to find the best low sodium advice. As anyone on a lower sodium lifestyle can attest, finding the right recipe can make all the difference between a horribly bland meal, and a great tasting meal. One of the best websites I came across was Christopher's Hacking Salt website. He had a gift in not only coming up with great recipes, but also making the reader feel normal and accepted in having to be extremely picky in their food choices. I printed recipe after recipe from the website until I saw that he also had this cookbook. I learned of his passing not too long after I purchased the book, and I have referred many friends and family to his website and his book as they have both been invaluable to me in gaining more knowledge of cooking and eating lower sodium foods. I have made a number of the recipes in the book, and although I may swap out something here and there as far as ingredients go, everything has turned out delicious and helped me stay on track with my own lower sodium diet without sacrificing the taste of great food.

Wow! Wow! Wow!
Wow! I bought 3 low sodium cookbooks on Amazon and Lower's is by far the best. The first thing i noticed was that every recipe is coded for Low, Lower or Lowest in sodium. There's also a per serving amount at the bottom of each, making it easy to maintain the 1,500 mg. per day limit for someone like my husband with CHF (congestive heart failure). Lower also gives 2 meal plans, one for hypertensive folks and one for those with CHF. The beginning chapters are important as they warn against potassium chloride, explain blood pressure, risk factors, tests and symtoms of heart disease, updating your pantry and kitchen equipment (nothing fancy!) While meat menus are included (we do not eat meat), I'm pleased there are 31 main dish vegetarian and 20 seafood entrees and 4 vegetarian soups. All the breakfasts (except one), the sauces & spice mixes, and the snacks/sides are vegetarian. The desserts are not sugary sweet and rely quite a bit on fruit. So far I've made the Chickpea Burgers with Tahini ,the Black Bean Croquettes with Fresh Salsa, and the Cauliflower Fried Rice. They are very good. While I'm not going to lie and say I don't miss the salt, these recipes come as close as possible to being as tasty as one could imagine. It will take a while to adjust to this new heart-healthy diet. To help add additional flavor, I recommend Dak's Sodium-free spices, The Gourmet Collection (Smoked Paprika, Garlic, Chili & Chives, Garlic Bread Spice Blend) Paul Prudhomme's Magic salt-free blends, Mrs. Dash's Southwest Chipotle and Taco Seasoning blends and Mrs. Dash's teriyaki marinade, Mr. Spice sauces: Sweet & Sour sauce and Honey BBQ and Westbrae organic stoneground no salt mustard. Francesco Rinaldi no-salt pasta sauce, and TorchBearer Tarnation hot sauce. All of these can be found on Amazon, but you may be able to purchase them locally.

Be careful of the sodium content calculations.
The recipes look good, but I am worried that the sodium calculations are a bit sloppy. For example, a French toast recipe calculates 238mg of sodium per serving. The recipe calls for "12 slices of light whole-grain bread;" but does not specify what brand. Sodium content in bread varies dramatically; for example, Oroweat double fiber has 130mg of sodium per slice. At the recommended serving size for the french toast recipe, the bread alone would account for 260mg of sodium, not the 238mg they list (and that's before you've factored in the other ingredients). Otherwise, I am pleased that there are many easy, crock pot recipes, and recipes for staple items like mayonnaise and pasta sauce.

Great Low Sodium cookbook for EVERYONE, whether you have restrictions or not!
Getting a Heart Failure diagnosis at age 59 right after rotator repair, with no symptoms prior, was a shock. Restricted sodium and fluid intake?! What?! They sent me home with a general Heart disease booklet. For weeks I thought all I could eat was fresh fruit and veggies and oatmeal. Then I found this recipe book that was just about to be released. It is great! So far every recipe we've tried is tasty and easy. This is a great starter book for how to replace seasonings too. There are 3 sections in Part One, with information on sodium, blood pressure, the things to do or not do in your kitchen, and some weekly meal plans... etc... Then great recipes like: Overnight Oatmeal with Banana and Chocolate, Roasted Salmon with Spinach-Quinoa Salad, and tonight I'm making Black Bean Croquettes with Fresh Salsa. We've been adding more whole and organic foods for over 15 years, so we had a start on healthy diets, but skipping even more sodium is another step- and now I'm learning that it is one everyone should be doing. So, this is a great cookbook for EVERYONE, whether you have restrictions or not!

Most useful low sodium cookbook
I love the mix of slow cooker and fast recipes, meat and vegetarian options and snack recipes like chickpeas! Love that there’s a breakdown of what low sodium looks like day to day. This book is probably the most useful low sodium books I’ve purchased.
