I had to buy this for a class. It does have a lot of information in it. A lot is common sense though.

Cheri Barton Ross has given us a valuable and extremely helpful resource for supporting children through the loss of their animal companions. I often refer to this book when I have a question specific to children's loss and subsequent grief. When parents ask about resources for their children who are either already grieving or are anticipating the loss of their animal, I let them know about this book. When I write and speak on pet loss, I include this book on my reference lists. Why? Because Cheri Barton Ross combines her knowledge and experience in a way that clearly shows that the grief that children experience for their loved animal companions is just as real and just as painful as that felt by adults. The chapters address the core areas of the experience of pet loss in children. The book's thoroughness and relevance make it useful for, among others, parents, grandparents,veterinary staff, pastoral care staff and teachers as well as those in the counseling professions. Its relevance clearly cuts across a variety of situations. Thank you, Cheri Ross, for contributing to our body of knowledge and clinical practice. I am a counselor at a Vet School and this book became very helpful when I first started in this program. I do work more with adults but I think this can cover those areas too.
