The complete Bullfinch (I think!)
Absolutely it met all my expectations! What I had here at home was the fables, not the complete Bullfinch. Now I have it all, between two covers!!

cover too plastic
My husband was pleased with the content just the same as his 50 year old copy that had fallen apart. But I thought the cover was a little shabby looking (too plastic)

Excellent Book!
This is an excellent book. It covers the entire Age of Fable, Chivalry, and the Legends of Charlemange. One of the best features of this book is that each story discussed in the "Age of Fable" section gets matched to the "modern" writings of famous poets and writers. Writers and poets such as Milton, Thoreau, Shakespeare, Schiller, Armstrong, etc. are featured. For example, do you know the fabled story of Perseus and Medusa? If you do then you can better understand and appreciate Milton, in his "Comus," thus alludes to the Aegis:"What was that snakyheaded Gorgon-shieldThat wise Minerva wire, unconquered virgin,Wherewith she freezed her foes to congealed stone,But rigid looks of chaste austerity,And noble grace that dashed brute violenceWith sudden adoration and blank awe!"The book does have a few illustrations but not so much to be described as inspiring (or even helpful). All in all, a great purchase and one which should not be skipped.
