Montessori coloured bead short chains and squares with arrows. The short bead chains and squares forms a part of the Montessori approach to multiplication. This set includes a bead chains and a square for each number from 1 - 10. This activity teaches the child skip counting which is preparation for multiplication. Once the child has counted the length of the chain by units and placed the labels, they then experience skip counting by using the numbers on the labels to count the chain. In addition, the child sees the short bead chain folded such that it forms a square. The square formed by the chain is compared to the corresponding number square. And the child connects that the square of the value equals the units in the chain. This material also indirectly prepares the child to understand squaring numbers.
