What happened?
I have the original ROCKET vinyl album of I've got the Music In Me...I bought this CD for TWO SONGS and ONLY two songs..."Step by Step" and "You Need Help"...the second song is a different version than I am used to on vinyl. Maybe this is a British version of something, but it's very disappointing to me. Other than that, it's nice to have some Kiki on CD.

Brilliant singer never made the big time
Although Kiki Dee (born Pauline Matthews) had several UK hits, she will primarily be remembered for her two duets with Elton John - Don't go breaking my heart (a number one UK hit in 1976) and True love (a number two UK hit in 1992), but True love is not included in this collection, which is limited to her seventies music. One of her biggest solo hits, Star, and one of her minor hits, Perfect timing, are also missing as they are from 1981.As a solo singer, Kiki never made the UK top ten, though she came close with Amoureuse (her best-known solo track) and Loving and free. Kiki had another UK top twenty hit with I got the music in me, plus minor UK hits in the seventies with You don't know how glad I am, First thing in the morning and Chicago.Kiki had spent ten years as a recording artist without success as a recording artist, establishing a reputation for great covers of R+B songs that resulted in her becoming the first white British artist to be signed to Motown, but the partnership was unsuccessful. However, she continued to cover R+B material after she left Motown, as this compilation shows via such songs as Ain't nothing like the real thing and Stay with me.Kiki Dee is one of those artists that is more respected by the critics than the public, who (for whatever reason) never bought her music in sufficient quantities to make her a big star. A best of set containing all her hits up to True love was issued some years ago, but this is now out of print.

Kiki Dee & Elton John at their Best!
I do not have either this CD (Amoureuse) or the original LP in my collection; but I do have the LP, Loving and Free, produced by Elton John and Clive Franks, purchased sometime in the middle 1970s. While I am neither a Kiki Dee fan, nor highly knowledgable on pop music, I personally consider Loving and Free to be one of the very best albums by a female vocalist in the 1970 - 80s. Elton John's contributions herein, including arrangements and production, are considerable - Kiki Dee, while extremely talented as a singer - songwriter, never matched the collaborations with Elton John, apart or own her own. But, again in my opinion, Elton John never had a whole album as good as, Loving and Free. The two were a dynamite combination. It's most unfortunate that Loving and Free is not available to the general CD buying public - but it's well worth your time and effort to find the album's music somewhere on the internet to download, and to listen to it. My only negative feelings about Loving and Free are that it could be more upbeat throughout - but both love and love songs can sometimes reflect sad, bittersweet experiences.

Pleasant surprise
I bought this CD for the song "I've Got The Music In Me" and was very pleasantly surprised at the consistent high quality and listenability of all the songs on it.

I totally agree with all of the comments regarding kiki. Her vinyl album on rocket "Loving & Free" is a pure gem and I still treasure it greatly. I only hope that someone soon re-issues it onto CD.

Superb Kiki Compilation
I bought this CD years ago, and it is an excellent CD containing the hits and many highlights of Kiki Dee's career in the 70's. Lots of songs on here, and even several of her 60's recordings, which sound great on CD.Kiki is very underrated as a singer & songwriter. She can sing rockers like I'VE GOT THE MUSIC IN ME, STEP BY STEP, ONE JUMP AHEAD OF THE STORM, and ballads with ease. This compilation CD is certainly worthy of owning. The 60's songs WHY DON'T I RUN AWAY FROM YOU and RUNNING OUT OF FOOLS are worth hearing ... rare singles from 1966 that illustrate Kiki's abilities singing r&b with that big voice when she was just a kid. Plus, includes an alternate take of album favorite YOU NEED HELP.Wonderful & highly recommended!
