The Nightmare before Christmas
Absolutely horrific scenes in our house! We were all excited to have the Santa express chugging around our tree. The tree was ready to go and my daughter and I were eager to start laying the tracks. I donned my top hat, cigar and assumed the role of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. My daughter put on her dungarees, took to using some agricultural language and starting drinking home made alcohol to really set the scene. We slapped down the tracks and buckled them up as per the instructions, put the batteries into the coal cart and placed the tractor engine, coal compartment, passenger carriage and Santa in his sleigh onto the rail road. What happened next can only be described as absolute carnage! We switched the power on, hotly anticipating a nostalgic trip back to the golden age of steam and the romance of the old railways. Instead the tractor engine screamed what sounded like the meltdown alarm at Chernobyl, lurched forward about 4 inches and derailed itself instantly. All the carriages went over including Santa which must have killed everyone on board instantly. This left my daughter shrieking in hysterics that we had killed Christmas, crying her eyes out and inconsolable to the fact no presents would be coming down the chimney ever again. We did manage to get it working, after several hours of adjustments and experimentation by not connecting the coal compartment to the tractor engine and just connecting the power lead but the damage had already been done. My daughter now doesnβt believe in Christmas and to make matters worse misspelled Santa into Google and spent a whole day researching Satan instead. This is the worst thing to happen to railways since Dr. Beeching!
