Great lesson in this book.
Quick read, but well worth it. This book makes you think and challenges your perspective of what is truly important in life.

A Really Great Short Story
I completely enjoyed this audiobook narration. I did read along on a kindle copy. The two copies were very similar but not identical. Both were great.Another reviewer stated the story leaves the reader with more questions. I agree with that. There is so much to contemplate here. I will relisten to this story. If one chooses to read this story and likes it as I do, one might consider “Misery” by the same author. A dark painful story, but very poignant. Both are available on a kindle copy titled “The Schoolmistress and Other Stories”. These are offered on kindle at no cost..Thank You….

Great read!
I would recommend this book, it does have a deep meaning behind what the author was trying to convey in this short story!

Fascinating Short Story
This was my first time reading Anton Chekhov, and what a story. What you do for two million dollars? Is it worth your freedom? This is explored in this story, along with grappling with the pursuit of knowledge and its futility (?)…that is up for debate. Will re-read.

Want to read for a long time
I have always wanted to read The Bet after someone told me that one of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone episodes was loosely based on this story of the same name. Glad I read it. Totally different ending. Still messed up though....

Interesting short story
The story is worth the read. I like the story and its insights, even if I do not agree with the philosophical outcome.

Excellent short story
A great five minute read. A banker bets a lawyer 2 million that he can't stay imprisoned for 15 years. The lawyer can have wine, tobacco and books while in an enclosed room in the banker's house. Download the story and see what happens.

Great story!
Great short story! Wasn't a fan of the additional story at the end but aside from the quality of the booklet, it was good.

Life imprisonment worse than capital punishment.
Reveals human psychology at its basic instinct. Man is a social animal. Lifelong isolation, cut off from fellow human beings is a worse punishment than capital punishment.
