Fire Victims: If your neighborhood has a Boil Water Notice, or if you want to help someone who has a Boil Water Notice
Sonoma County residents: If your neighborhood has a Boil Water Notice, or if you want to help someone who's in a neighborhood with a Boil Water Notice:I was fortunate enough to leave Sonoma County a few days before the fires started to visit lots of family in Vietnam. Most Vietnamese families do not consider their tap water to be safe, so most of them boil water before drinking it, or they buy bottled water. So I researched water bottles with a built-in water filter prior to my trip, just in case boiled or bottled water occasionally wasn't handy.Contrary to popular belief, bottled water is much less regulated than municipal (city) tap water. And plastic brings major health risks as well (see "Bag It!" documentary but be warned, it gets a little depressing after the narrator finds out he and his wife are going to have a baby.I ended up buying this water filter bottle for only $24.95 on Amazon:Outdoors 365 Survival Straw Water Bottle by FrogDogz 365https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073HYJG4C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1- Removes 99.99% of all heavy metals & water born bacteria- Makes any ground water drinkableIf you buy a water filter "straw" alone (by several different manufacturers), it runs about $15-$20 (such as the highly rated "Life Straw" which was $15 and is now about $17-18.) These water filter straws are very wide, and a little heavy so might be inconvenient to hold and drink out of a tall container. So I think the Outdoors 365 Survival Straw Water Bottle for only about an extra $10 is a good deal, and more convenient. Others are around $35 and up. I hope Amazon will keep the price low for those in the fire zones.I've mostly had access to boiled or bottled water on my trip, so I've only needed to use it a few times so far in the last 10 days in Vietnam. But so far, so good.I've read some complaints on some of the similar products about having to suck hard to get the water through the filter, but I've had very little trouble so far. It hasn't been bad at all. There's a little taste of plastic which they say will go away but it's not too bad.My main complaint is that the top leaks, which is bad since I carry my Sony NEX6 camera and flash in my backpack so if the backpack tips over the camera equipment could get wet, and some of my things get wet. My solution is I always keep the camera and its case in a plastic bag, and I try to always store the backpack vertically.I'm pretty happy with it. I just need to remember not to fill it to the brim, to leave room for the fat filter straw to go in. I just need to make a scratch on the plastic bottle to mark the fill line.It has a teeny tiny compass you can see when you lift up the straw, which I have no use for as I don't do much camping. But it's kind of amusing.I am sad to see the terrible devastation but it is heartening to see how people have rallied to help each other, and how many outside the county are also helping out as much as they can.

Everyone needs this
Awesome water bottle. These are the best easy to replace the filters these are a must have on any hiking trip if camping trip. Visiting a foreign country can’t beat this filter system. The only down size is that it does not filter microscopic organisms so they pass thru the filter. In Mexico it’s probably the real threat without boiling I always suggest boiling and a water tablet. Be sure you only use cold water do not boil your water and then put hot water in the bottle. These are a life saver you need one bottler for every family member I even keep two extra filters which will last one person without boing or using water purification tablets last for several years of fresh water. Follow your direction and be safe and you get a tile bonus with this brand you get a built in compass great idea!

Good drinking water from natural sources without the added weight or health risk
Excellent gift for anyone who enjoys recreational hiking and camping. This Survival Straw definitely takes the worry out of drinking from lakes, streams and rivers where contaminants could be present. I also like the added convenience of having a built-in compass for quick reference. My shipment arrived as expected after an easy ordering experience. No surprises - just a really nice container for filtering water.

Used it and it worked
Worked great, used it all day while trekking up a river and didn't get sick from drinking the water (that is all I needed from this product while in the middle of the woods and it delivered)
