My First Book of Patterns

My One Year Old's Favorite Book!
My grandson has been fascinated by patterns since he was 6 months old. I searched for a book about patterns and found this wonderful book by Montessori teachers. My grandson loves it! I have to read and reread it multiple times in one sitting. When we hand him a different book, he will drop it and go off in search of this book. It’s fascinating to me to see how much a baby can prefer a certain book!Since it is a board book, I feel confident in letting him hold it by himself. The simple layout with few words is perfect for babies and early toddlers. The size and colors of the patterns catches his interest. The only drawback I have found is that the pages that show scenes using the patterns are not realistic. Why not show stripes with tigers, zebras, or fish? Argyle using socks or a sweater? Checks using a real checker board?I saw other reviews saying their child wasn’t interested in this book, and I can certainly understand that. Babies and toddlers have proclivities even at this young age. I noticed my grandson staring at patterned pillows, rugs, etc. for relatively long bouts of time, so I went in search of a book about patterns. I’m so glad that this is the book I found! It’s exactly what I wanted, and more importantly, it’s exactly what my grandson loves!

Wondeful book!
My 8 month old is mesmerized with this book. I love that it is a little longer than most board books and still retains my child's attention. It's great for learning shapes and has beautiful, bright illustrations.

LOVE IT
My 2.6 year old initially didn't care for the book but he asks for it every night now. He's still iffy about the patterns but is learning. The pictures are colorful and fun. My son can point out stripes and polka dots which is pretty cool! I like that they break down the patterns into shapes and then tell you what it is on the next page. Then the page after that shows you a scene with various items in stripes. I would’ve liked it more if they used real life examples of things with stripes like zebras. But still a great book!!

Great for toddlers!
My son loves this book so much that he pretty much worn out and ruined the other one so had to buy another.

Baby 16 month old knows pattern names
When we read this book, my 16 month old will say each shape and then say almost all of the patterns that follow, including “paisley”, and “floral”. Highly recommend. It’s simple and not wordy. Pages are thin for a board book, but there are so many patterns, it couldn’t be any other way.

Toddler favorite
My 2 year old loves this book! He’s even started to notice patterns in random places from this book like on speed bumps he said “stripes!” And on a happy birthday balloon he said look it’s polka dots. Really awesome

Fantastic design! One year old loves it!
This book caught my eye in a design museum gift shop. I was not sure if my toddler would comprehend anything, but it turns out he did! He LOVES the book. The concept of shape becoming pattern is presented so simply and well, and the accompanying illustrations are perfect for reading time together: where is the fish with stripes? Do you see a guitar? Etc. Now every time we are getting dressed or sitting in the subway, he points to the familiar patterns and says “Stripes!” “Dots!” Excellent book! I’ve already gifted it to two other babies.

Design AND baby friendly
My husband is a graphic designer, so I thought this would be a fun buy for our newborn. The book looks beautiful on the shelf and our baby loves staring at the patterns.

Excellent learning tool, enjoyable for toddler
Im surprised how much my 3.5 year old LOVES this book! We are reading it every night and she enjoys being quizzed at the end about which pattern is called what. She has learnt a lot like I hoped for.
