Some bizarre English translations
The selection is fine; there's nothing wrong there, but not a few of the translations are weirdly overwrought, some indeed being so rococo that what should be a shorter paragraph in English turns out to exceed the Spanish by a good 50%, which is frankly ridiculous. Then there are the unnecessary rare words and archaisms; clearly the translator was out to impress, at the cost of simple accuracy. For learners of Spanish the book is of very limited usefulness. Still, as already remarked, it is an interesting chrestomathy.

Satisfied customer
I got this as a Christmas present for my daughter, a Spanish major and aspiring translator. She loved it. So, therefore, do I.

Only one woman included...
I am considering teaching from this anthology for a Spanish literature in translation class. Unfortunately, there is only one woman (Teresa de Avila) in all nine centuries of Spanish literature, so I will have to supplement with online readings.

Very good anthology.
Very good anthology. The selections from the modern period need to be updated.
