Brilliant read!
Excellent study of Soho, past and present. I can easily recommend it.

The best guide building by building
I really enjoyed this, full of quirky detail and a great overview of the subject. One proviso; the book works very well as a guide if you’re actually IN Soho, walking the streets and having the book with you. It can be frustrating if, like me, you know Soho but have now moved away so can’t quite remember which building is where and what’s on the corner of, say, Greek Street and Old Compton Street. The author strikes one as being “ a good egg”.

Detailed and Fascinating.
A remarkable feat of research. Given Soho’s reputation it’s hardly surprising that sex or rather the commercial aspect of sex plays a significant role in its history. However all the other contributory factors are here like sewage and fresh water, primitive law enforcement and given Mr Cruickshank’s speciality the architectural history of the area. At such a low price, on Kindle, it’s a bargain you won’t regret buying.
