Great read if you can read fluently.
Loved this book for many reasons. First, I greatly enjoy Flaubert and this is a book I've been holding off on reading for a while because I wanted to read it in the native tongue in which it was written. I finally got to a point where I was confident my comprehension was good enough and this duel language version was instrumental in making that leap comfortably. The book is brilliantly synced so when my mind got tired I could easily find the idioms and clips and phrases I was misunderstanding in French on the opposite English page, and as I continued through the book I was reading more fluently than when I started and had less of a need for the English translation [but it was still a comfort having it there]. Enjoyed it so much I just picked up La Dame aux Camelias by the same publisher. Do yourself the favor if you think you're there and grab this book!

Great novel and each page is translated in English and French!
One of the best novels ever written. I always wanted to know just how to say it in French.

Always a classic
Translation by Eleanor Marx (Karl's daughter) is a bit outdated and stilted as regards language usage and idioms, but still serviceable. An essential book for anyone interested in French language, literature and culture.

The wonderfully complex and neurotic personality of Madame Bovary shines through ...
The wonderfully complex and neurotic personality of Madame Bovary shines through in this brilliant English translation, which captures the French nuance and idiom, in this side by side translation on each page. The French original work by Flaubert is choreographed next to the inspired English work written in 19th Century Paris, by the daughter of the socialist intellectual Karl Marx, famous for his work Capital, Marx lived in London and is buried in Highgate with an impressive monument. In Madame Bovary the melancholic mood of the French countryside rings true of Provence, and the eloquent milieu of the novels sophisticated plot is eloquently interpreted, with patience, care and attention to detail. An historically alluring work of great genius, which can be compared to Tolstoy. And a side by side translation makes charming reading.Entering the mind of Flaubert is this dual language book, is an enlightening experience which will inspire the reader with intellectual curiosity about the amazing literature of France. And easily lead into other great writers works, such as Victor Hugo, Montaigne, Alexandre Dumas, Blaize Pascal, etc. This parallel book will assure the reader with confidence and fluency in reading, construing, and interpreting French. Like any great written work, there are many interpretations, and the English translation is a good choice, because it is the most intellectually liberal, and shows the well read familiarity with world of great literature, and French philosophy of the translator. The production of the book, embodies energy and passion, and brings an innovative form of new book with feng shui, to the market displaying its strengths. One experiences the genius and genuine passion of the book and its author, by reading its narrative in this easy format.. Easy peasy, its a doddle to read. This is enough to inspire one to study the Russian novel, and its extraordinary rise.Considering the imaginative grasp of French one can gather from such a new format as this. One gains reading strategies, and self learning strategies, intuitively, which genuinely empowers the reader to scale the heights of any meaningful reading material.
