I Am Batman

I AM BATMAN is a charming fictional biography of the Batman character, tracing the journey of the young Bruce Wayne (always depicted at child size to aid identification for young readers) as he copes with the murder of his parents and eventually finds his purpose as the protector of Gotham City.Brad Meltzer's script is easy for toddlers to follow, and Christopher Eliopoulis' illustrations are charming, pitching the character just right as a source of fear for the exploiters and terrorists of the world but a friend to children.This book isn't just fun for kids; adult fans weary of the suffering Batman of the films and the Arkham games who is forever locked in a hopeless battle will find its optimistic tone to be a tonic.Lastly, the book takes pains to give credit to the many creators of the Batman mythos. This is not only a salutary gesture on the part of DC/Warners, but it underlines for young readers that Batman and his friends and foes sprung from the creativity of real people, and that their own creativity could be used to create a similar world of imagination.

I love these first two books and look forward to Sherlock Holmes and Tarzan.
