Waterman Hémisphère Fountain Pen | Metal & Blue Lacquer with Palladium Coated Trim | Stainless steel Medium Nib | Gift Box

My first venture into a fountain pen was with an Aurora many years ago. It was love at first write. Unfortunately, the nib has worn, suffered a few bumps, became a bit scratchy and electronic devices have pushed it out of the way, so it was put away and left to dry in peace.Recently my love for handwriting with fountain pens was restored with a Parker pen. Much the same as the Parker pen, this Waterman comes in card based packaging (nice to see less plastic) with a sprung hinge, suede like lining and a soft feel outer layer that gives it a decent gift presentation. Included with the pen is a blue ink cartridge.It is nicely balanced in the hand, writes smoothly and gives an even run of ink. The 2 tone purple barrel has a nice satin steel feel to it and is a break from the usual mundane pens I have. The cartridge sealed without issue and has not shown any signs of leakage. The lid clips firmly into place and can be placed on the barrel when in use, though it feels a little top heavy when you do that.The nib pulls out cleanly to allow for flushing and cleaning, but it is fairly low maintenance. I am not sure on availability of replacement nibs should it get damaged, but as long as you replace the cap, the nib should last a lifetime.Writing is an absolute pleasure and I am currently writing out Christmas cards with it. As with any fountain pen, you have to allow drying time and on paper with a certain degree of absorbency, you get bleeding lines, but on most paper and cards the lines are clean and crisp.I only have one very minor negative and that is the section (the bit your fingers grip) has 2 fine ridges where the plastic was moulded together. Not a great issue and doesn’t interfere with comfort, but for the price I would have expected finer attention to detail. As I said, a very minor point and not a deal breaker.The pen is currently £100 and whilst Waterman have a very good heritage, I can’t help thinking this is asking a little too much. I’m not saying it isn’t worth it, I just think they could do a little better on the price or at the very least throw in a pack of cartridges to sweeten the deal. If the price drops, then you will have a very nice pen that will last you years.

This pen is high quality and I think it will last for years. I enjoyed writing with it. It has some weight to it but it’s slim. That makes it comfortable to hold. I like the look of this pen although I don’t think it looks as expensive as it is. I think the matte purple makes it look like plastic. I think a metallic darker purple would have been gorgeous. The nib is fine so your writing will look elegant.

This is the second Waterman pen I have had the chance to try out, I absolutely love using this fountain pen to write with, very comfortable to use, glides along the paper and writes beautifully. The pen itself is a two-tone purple colour scheme, with gold accents running across the pen. It has a beautiful finish and displayed in a very well present box. It's fantastic to look at and use, but I couldn't pay this amount for a pen, unfortunately. I will be looking to keep this pen in pristine condition and only use it for special occasions, and expect it to last for many years to come.

The packaging and the box in which the pen is contained are made of excellent materials, mako it a great gift option.The pen itself is fantastic, balanced weight, diameter and length make it an absolute pleasure to hold, and the tip and the cartridge provide excellent smooth contact with paper surface, gliding through the text.The size is ideal, large enough to grip without any issues, and small enough to nicely fit in a pocket or a hand bag, comfortable and practical.Dismantling the pen to replace the cartridge is simple, and the casing is made of excellent quality materials, so it should, in theory, last a lifetime. That helps cushioning the dent that it would cause on your budget if you decided to buy it, but it could be a bit cheaper still. It would however make an excellent gift, would definitely recommend.

This pen is so stylish, I love the contrast of soft purple hues with the gold plating. I got the fountain pen model and it comes in a smart storage case with one complimentary blue ink cartridge. is comfortable to hold and write with, glides quite easily, and feels good to use. It is very expensive for a pen, but it would make a lovely gift for a teacher, writer, student, graduate, etc.

This fountain pen by Waterman look absolutely beautiful. It comes in its own blue presentation box with the ‘Waterman Paris’ name on the top and the Waterman logo on the front. It looks and feels like they’ve cut a few costs with the case, as it feels like it’s cardboard or plastic. Perhaps this pen should have come with a better quality box considering the, near hundred pound, price tag. Inside the case, you get the pen and one ink cartridge. This feels a little stingy considering the cost. It would have been good to have got two ink cartridges or an ink converter.I went for the purple pen. It comes in a two-tone colour scheme. A lighter purple barrel and a darker purple lid. The whole pen is accented with gold metal on the clip and the trim. What I really like about this pen is the slimness. I often find thicker pens heavier and harder to hold. This pen is lovely to hold and is not overly heavy either. The nib is a medium, gold coated nib. It has a very smooth flow when writing and is a joy to use. This would make a lovely gift for those who enjoy writing or who write a lot as part of their job.
