Who knew a light could have so many features?
I bought this light for running. I hit the road at 5am and, even in the summer, it is dark. I run along a bike path in the woods with no lighting. I actually think about that Slender Man game frequently when I go through this really narrow part of the path through the woods. So far, he hasn't found me (or I'm just too fast!)When I first opened this light and put in the included batteries, I was super underwhelmed. My old Black Diamond Sprinter was brighter. I ditched the Duracell's and popped in freshly charged Eneloop's. BOOM! Serious brightness was released. I really do like the amount of light. I will burn Slender Man to a crisp with this thing.Things I don't like: (1) It's heavy. With 4 AAAs on board, I feel like a rhinoceros. My old Sprinter had the battery pack in back and this nicely distributed the weight. This light would be fine for camping/hiking but it is annoying for running. (2) On full blast, there is a combination of a wide beam that illuminates around your feet and a spot that aims ahead. The spot is quite focused and there is a bright spot bouncing around in front of you. This doesn't cause any motion sickness for me but it is a little annoying. This is an inconvenience that comes with being able to clearly see 50 meters ahead of me in pitch darkness. (3) This light is too complicated. There is only one button that controls the functions. The tap button on the side just toggles beast mode on/off. You have to hold the function button for various lengths of time to enable various modes. Sometimes, I want to use the strobe because it's dawn and I don't need light to see but I want to be visible to traffic. It is damn impossible to hold the button for 4 seconds while I'm running. I inevitably end up in one of the color lights. Do you really need red, blue, and green?I will keep trying this product to see if I can get used to it. There is no doubting its impressive illumination. I think I simply went in for a headlight that was not the right fit for my needs.

Handy headlamp
Love this thing, I know there are brighter headlamps out there from other manufacturers than these but I've always used this. I guess I'm just more familiar with this thing and that's why I haven't chose to upgrade. When I was flying my airplane, I would use the red light at night so I didn't ruin my night vision. It's never failed me. When I was out working on airplanes at night in the rain, this thing didn't quit on me. It's durable and hasn't let me down so far, maybe that's why I haven't upgraded to higher lumen headlamp. It's also comfortable on my head and the headband strap doesn't stretch out and degrade like my other friends headlamps have done. This thing has 3 settings for light color, red, blue, and green. All adjustable. and of course there is white light also that is dimmable via a hold down button and operates similar to a dimmer switch. Another good function is that you can tap it on the top right and it toggles between bright, low, and I believe there was another setting of medium. I usually go for bright when I need to see far, and low when what I'm working on is right in front of my face. Overall, good product that's durable and hasn't failed me yet. Wish that the price was a little lower due to other competitors with higher lumens for about the same price.

The Upgrade I didn’t know I needed!
I have the model before this one and wanted to upgrade. I was very attached to my old one and couldn’t imagine moving on. But boy was I wrong! It’s easy to pop the seal with the snap than fighting a screw to remove the batteries. It’s BRIGHT as heck and still can dim enough to be exactly what light level you need. Has all the old settings so retraining to use it in the dark is no problem. Has red, green, blue, proximity, and a far distance beam. Each light setting can be used in strobe mode. The “On/Off” button toggles between the light like the previous model and controls the strobe function. And yes it locks! And the single touch brightness function is dramatically bright from your preferred light setting. You may be looking for a new brighter flashlight but I swear you’re looking for a headlamp. This one is it.

Awesome headlamp, brightness memory is a plus! Great upgrade from my 10 year old BD lamp.
Anyone complaining about the controls should not even be allowed to own a headlamp - it is intuitive, easy to use, and seems to have pretty darn good battery life. I use rechargeables and they last days - I use my lamp at least 2 hours per day. I NEED the green and red at night - the blue is a cool new-to-me color. The brightness memory is awesome!!! What a great new feature. I also like the ‘one touch max brightness’ when I hear the bear crashing around (or my bear dog, or the bear followed by my bear dog). We live off grid. I live and die by my headlamp. I’m really glad I got this one. Didn’t realize there is a 400lumen too. This is plenty bright though. Can’t reiterate it enough: the brightness memory is key!!!!!!!

Excellent headlamp for the average user.
Works great! Exactly as stated in the product description. I do recommend this product as it is very bright and has lots of features. I also purchased the Amazon Basics rechargeable batteries. This headlamp will run threw batteries really quickly(at full intensity settings) so make sure you get extra rechargeable batteries to go with it. The battery indicator is a nice feature, that turns on momentarily when turning on the headlamp. The one and only button (which controls everything) is easy to use and easy to press even when wearing gloves. The Dimmer feature works on all light settings including the red, green, and blue feature. The Black Diamond Storm Headlamp is a high quality product for the average user. The only real complaint I have about the product is the headband as it loosens rather easily and has to be re-adjusted every time I put it back on my head, but its only a minor issue as with two hands it is quickly resolved. The range of this headlamp is not the best compared to spotlight headlamps(like the StreamLight), but it is not labeled as a spotlight, for close to medium distance (0-50 feet) this headlamp will light up a very wide area with lots of intensity.

"bright but dim"
I bought this head torch to replace an older Petzl that was not bright enough. The Black Diamond is certainly brighter but its downside is that it dims too quickly - battery does not last as well as expected. It is also awkward to operate, and the soft plastic/rubber casing gets dirty very easily so never looks good. On balance it was a mistake buying this in my opinion. That said I have previously bought a newer Petzl and found its buttons too hard to fathom so it was returned. Looks like I need to do some significant research to find a headtorch that is truly easy to operate and has the right balance of features. This Black Diamond is not a bad torch but honestly I can't recommend it.

Great headtorch, shame about the user interface.
Bought as a throw in a bag just in case headtorch. The powertap feature is nice and works well giving a boost to the output when needed. It also seems alot more energy efficient than the cheap china headtorch it replaced while giving a similar output. The big let down is the main on off button. It is just too fiddly to set it to green or red if you are in a hurry. I can see what they went for but the interface could be easily fixed with just one more button, one for colour cycling and the other for setting brightness.

Good light weight head torch
This knocks out a good amount of light for such a light weight head torch. I wanted a light i could also run with which i can with this. It also has a red geen and blue light and many light settings.
