Great Barbie reproduction!
I'm a Barbie doll collector and this doll is great! She's affordable for those of us who can't get an original #1 Ponytail Barbie. I love that she was made with the holes in her feet to go with the same stand as the original doll. The attention to detail was pretty good. Her face is beautiful and her hair is great. She has the poodle bangs (unlike the 35th anniversary doll) and she doesn't have a full head of hair like the original (if you take down her ponytail she'll be mostly bald). There is some double sided tape that holds her swimsuit up, but it doesn't take much effort to remove the swimsuit to dress her in the Solo in the Spotlight dress. In fact, the leftover tape is good for holding up the dress and the swimsuit if you decide to put it back on her. My only minor complaints are that you have to hike up the dress a little so you can put her on the stand properly, and that her hands are not the same hands that were on the original #1 Ponytail Barbie. I also really enjoyed the cards and little booklet that came with the doll. She was a great addition to my collection and is great for any Barbie collector or someone who remembers their Ponytail Barbie from when they were little.

Great find for my Mom!
My Mom has collected Barbies for years and Found about this particular barbie too late(found out on the news...a story about it's collectibility and it's scarcity) so when she couldn't find it at any stores in the state, she was pretty bummed, to say the least. I checked Amazon.com, and boom! there it was! After about a minute it was on it's way to surprising my terrific Mom(which was just what it did!). It WAS her second Fav. cllectable Doll(just behind the Comeback Special Elvis figure made by Mcfarland action figures-a great and detailed doll for you Elvis collectors/fans[my mom is the biggest!]. Now the Farrah doll has slipped to a close third, behind the JAck Sparrow Barbie(Mom is a Huge Johnny Depp fan! But who isn't? I have likes him ever since I saw 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas', and I'm a straight fella!) I bought immediately after receiving an e-mail from Amazon suggesting it! So Kudos to Barbie for making a long overdue tribute to Farah(albeit a looonnngg overdue one in my opinion, I mean what better fit than a Barbie in Farrah's Likeness?). Also, thanks Amazon for all of the guitar gear! I tell all of my musician friends to stay out of Guitar Center and get to Amazon.com. Why pay $200 when you can pay $150? It is common sense! Keep the hits comming Amazon, Lord knows I'll keep draining my Debit Card account!........now to get those Nike Dunks in my cart! Thanks for being the best shopping spot on the intranet-Erik

An improvement over the 35th Anniversary Repro
I owned the 35th Anniversary reproduction of Barbie #1. If you owned the previous doll released in 1994, you might want to consider buying this doll as well. Its actually an improvement! One of the problems I had with the 1994 doll was the hair. The 2009 repro is far superior. The 1994 doll had a shade of blonde that was a bit too mousy. This doll has just the right blonde shade more faithful to the original. The hair style on this one, though the hairline is a little low, is more faithful to the original as it has kinky bangs as opposed to the "bobbed" bangs of the original repro. Another big improvement is the doll stand. This doll has holes in the bottom of the feet (like the original dolls) that allow it to sit on the spokes of the stand. The 1994 doll had a clumsy doll stand that squeezes around the waist. This 50th anniversary doll's stand is much user friendly, as the original doll's stand.Deficits of this version? The adhesive used for holding up the bathing suite is a real minus! If you were to take off the bathing suit, you'd have to tear through the adhesive holding it to the doll. This is a really badly thought out detail. The 1994 reproduction used clear plastic straps to keep the suit on the doll. If you don't mind the adhesive sticking to her boobs if you chose to put on the accompanying outfit, then this might not be a big deal. This review just finds it needless. Also, why does Mattel have to staple the head to the box? Its incredibly difficult to cut the plastic staples the way they are attached to head. This really seems like a pointless bit of packing and worse...you have staples sticking from under her hair once you cut it away.Bottom line. If you want a more affordable version of Barbie #1, this is your gal. Unfortunately, Mattel sees fit to package this doll in such a way that you are forced to deal with staples in the head and adhesive on the boobs. But then, Barbie was a modern gal so maybe she doesn't mind it so much.

Barbie-50 and Fabulous!
Barbie turned 50 this year and so did my sister so I bought this gift, not for a child, but for my sister! My other sisters and I created a "Barbie Birthday in a Box" and this was the centerpiece. We included lots of Barbie memories from our childhood (with 4 girls in the house she was a real player!) My sister loved the "My Favorite Barbie" and she has a new interest in collecting vintage dolls/dresses because of this. This gift is worth the price--and it comes in a really nice package that is ready for wrapping.
