Had me sold at Dick Gregory
The media could not be loaded. So I’m just getting started with this read and already I love all the information in the breakdown that I’m seeing. It’s a pretty hefty read but it’s condensed into a smaller version of the book that’s pictured. I’m excited to get through it and use it as an additional guide on my healing journey. It looks Like a mini textbook but like I said I’m super excited to compare the information with my other books. Pricing was around the reasonable cost I would think for a book like this I actually thought it should be a little bit more in terms of the value that you’re getting in the read, But I’m never going to complain when it comes to getting a good price for quality. I’ll have to check and let you know more details when I finish

Informative but a little preachy
I bought this book for a friend and thought the topic would be valuable. Unfortunately some of the comparisons were a little over the top between African American and Europeans and this took away from the reading. I feel the information was valuable enough to stand on its own without some of the asides about the issues related to race relations in America. Granted that this book is a product of the 60s where the rhetoric of that time was important and valuable but reading it now in the 2020s it was a little outdated and for this reader and the friend that I purchased this for a little too much: this took away from the valuable information contained there in. Because I lived for a time in West Africa I can personally say that some of the information presented was not truly "African" enough and I feel did not embrace some of the features or culture of this Glorious and diverse continent. This review is years after having glanced at the book and after reading many of the chapters so I don't recall if the author had been to any part of sub-Saharan Africa but for some reason I feel that he had not and is evident or if he did go I wonder in what manner. Yet it is important to present a perspective that is often lacking in health and well-being for those of African-American descent or those interested in African-American perspectives in health.
