Focal Point 83218 18-Inch Rondel Medallion 18 3/8-Inch by 18 3/8-Inch by 1 1/8-Inch, Primed White

This medallion was a last minute mad dash purchase, and I’m so glad we got this. It’s absolutely beautiful without being too over the top ornate-adding just the right amount of charm to an otherwise plain box tray ceiling in our foyer. We had put off going into the local stores to pick something out, and had not even looked online much for what we would like. We knew we wanted a medallion when our chandelier was going up, and then we got the call our chandelier was going to be delivered and installed in 4 days. So, a couple of hours on Amazon looking for a ceiling medallion that could be delivered in 3 days or less resulted in this purchase. The medallion arrived promptly wrapped in bubble wrap in a box. It is lightweight and made of some foam like material (just a tad flaky when unwrapping), and appeared to be primed for paint (cream like color to it). We didn’t bother to paint it-went up the way it came. There are three hanging slots on the back to mount it along with some hardware. A label on the backside indicates it was made in China. We had it professionally installed by the chandelier guy. He commented it was a really nice medallion that was both lightweight and easier to install than most he’s dealt with. Since it was installed in a 15 ft foyer, he also said caulking wouldn’t be necessary since 1) you won’t see the seam and 2) you don’t want to trap moisture (condensation) between the medallion and drywall of the ceiling being in an entryway which is prone to temperature fluctuation. Here are the measurements of the 31” medallion we received (see photos): full width of medallion from edge to edge is 31.5”, when flushed against the wall the medallion center is 7/8 of an inch from the wall, the lip of the center of the medallion is about 3/8 of an inch thick, the actual cutout center of the medallion is 3” 3/8 of an inch, the inside of the medallion center (which dips inward/outward) is 5” 3/8 of an inch and the outer part of the medallion center is 6” 1/2 of an inch (did not measure the rise part). Our 5” cap for the chandelier fitted nicely over the center (and not inside the medallion center cutout as someone else had pointed out crossly). But this is a good thing as the cap concealed any gaps between the drywall and base of the medallion center along with electrical wirings and of course any ceiling drywall that is located being the medallion. We are very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend it.

Some imperfections, but overall in good condition. The difficulty is the installation of the medallion. It is very tricky to install. Getting the screws to align is difficult and getting the medallion to turn to lock the screws is even harder. But, we got it to work.

Seems some people do not like the system for attaching this medallion, but I think it worked great. About 15 min install time (not including perimeter caulk, paint and chandelier install). No need to run screws through the medallion and ruin it or have to patch holes. Just follow the instructions to install the foam guide, install the points into the screw slots, press the medallion in place to create detents in the drywall, install drywall anchors (I used small ones than those supplied), tighten down screws to achieve a tight fit, and rotate the medallion in place. I added some construction adhesive before installing it to the ceiling. I've attached some pics - one of the foam guide, one of a detent, and one with the medallion installed without the light. Paint it with regular semi-gloss trim paint to match your home. Easy.

I spent a lot of time looking for a ceiling medalion at Home Depot, Lowes, Houzz and finally Amazon. Very disappointed in the big box stores as the quality was bad and choices were limited. Houzz offered a lot of options, but shipping time was so slow! I am so happy I found this item on amazon. It was delivered the next day and far exceeded my expectations. The quality was great and it arrived with no blemishes or marks. We put it up using construction adhesive as, like other reviewers before me stated, their installation system is more of a pain than it was worth! The adhesive worked well and it looks like it has always been part of the room! You can paint this, but I didn’t need to and it looks wonderful! Definitely a great purchase!

Classy. Nicer quality than some other brands.I purchased several sizes and styles of medallions. I wasn't sure which style or size would work best. I have since learned: The Rule of thumb is that a medallion should be the same diameter as the lamp.I figured I could return the ones that didn't fit my need. I ended up keeping ALL of them. I am very impressed with the Focal Point brand. I chose another medallion for my dining room. But, I have decided to keep this medallion for a future use instead of returning it. I purchased as a warehouse deal.

I ordered this specifically because the description says there is a "5-Inch Canopy Opening". This is false. The canopy opening is only four inches in diameter. Now we have to figure out how to either a) return the medallion without a box because we assumed we had ordered what we thought we had ordered, or b) find another 4-inch matching chandelier cap to fit the 4-inch canopy opening. Through my research, I read others' reviews of this product - all of whom stated that this medallion had a 5-inch canopy opening. I wanted to trust that we would, too. Becuase of this false advertising, we have lost precious time and energy; I felt compelled to warn others.

This medallion is gorgeous! It's not plastic like you would find at Home Depot or Lowes. I usually end up painting the plastic medallions to make them look like the authentic plaster ones. This already has a wonderful matte texture to it so there's no need to paint it. Plus it's solid but light weight. Not hollow and not flimsy. It finishes off the room nicely and makes my 1930's light fixture look that much more amazing. My only issue was there were no customer photos.
