really great for the cost, just don't put any heavy mics on it.
This is a killer price for a boom. This is built fairly well. The weak link is the ability to lock in place with a bulky mic. If you are going to use it for smaller mics like pencil condensers, or an SM57, you should be okay. Don't put anything big on it and it seems to work fine.

Too short.
This "mini" boom arm is too short for my purposes. It's not extendable. Otherwise, seems to be good quality.

Slips easily after tightening
Looks nice but flimsy, no matter how much you tighten the knob it keeps slipping

Good quality.. for the price. Drummers will need a longer boom though.
Purchased a 2nd one for my husband. The first has been used to hold both dynamic and condenser mics. As a singer he prefers to use round metal base stands (base doesn't break like foldable legs if someone carelessly steps too close), but needs this boom for use with the condenser and for others who are playing guitar/bass and singing. Boom is fairly short, but enough to allow not hitting the stand with a guitar. Note, a drummer would require a longer boom if needing a mic.

Needs counterweight
It's ok for $10. Really needs to come with a counterweight. My mic is not that heavy and this arm makes my table stand tip forward. I bought a pipe clamp at the hardware store to act as a counterweight.

Not even worth $10. The friction clamp doesn't hold.
If you try to extend the boom, even with anything on it that is fairly lightweight, the clamp can't hold it. The clamp relies solely on clamping friction and if you try tightening it more, it will break.

Works for light microphones.
Used it to get a little more room on and AKG microphone on a weighted floor stand. It did the job as we needed it to. It's a little light for heavy mics and a little short to use alone. Works great to hold an instrument mic for acoustic instruments. Not disappointed in the purchase in anyway, but probably wouldn't buy again unless I had a particular single use in mind.

About what you can expect for 10 bucks
Like others have said, it doesn't have much clamping power and if you extend it out to a useful distance, just a normal dynamic mic will cause it to sag.To solve the sag issue, you need to put a counterweight on the fat end of the boom. When it is balanced against the weight of the mic, the clamp is strong enough and doesn't sag.I'm using mine on a desktop mic stand, and with a counterweight it works great for my purpose. It works about as well as you can expect something at this price point to work.

Small...
For some reason I thought this was going to be longer than the 13 inches... I might have to buy a larger boom later on... The quality is fantastic but the size is a small problem...UPDATE:The plastic Thumb locknut / plastic cap broke when I tried to adjust the length of the boom arm. This happened 2 days after Amazon's 30 day returns expired. So, I've been trying to reach out to the manufacturer for a warranty claim but I haven't heard anything from them...UPDATE:Peak Music contacted me and they did not only replace the Thumb locknut; They replaced the whole boom arm with a new one. (shipped from California overnight, free of charge...) Great service guys!

Fairly sturdy, fair value
I got this in the hope of replacing a gooseneck that copes poorly with heavy microphones. The size is great for that. However, the fittings are made of plastic and do not seem very sturdy. They work reasonably well (so far) to hold the arm in place for a while with a heavy Blue Yeti attached, but it takes a lot of tightening and, even when fully tightened it does slowly sag over the course of a day, much like the gooseneck but less easy to adjust. The problem is that there is no counterweight - the end-piece that looks like it should be a counterweight is just a plastic handle - so the hinge is under a lot of strain. I'm not confident it will last. The handle seems firmly glued on, rather than screwed in, otherwise I would simply add a bit of lead or something similar to provide the necessary weight.

Alright for the money.
I bought this fully expecting to replace the bolts that come with it and make my own counter weight and for what you pay it's just fine. I'm using mine with a small non telescopic desk mic stand to mic my kick drum. It saves me buying a small boom that costs way more than it's worth. If I were to use a U47 then I would buy a stand that I could rely on to hold the over 12k mic but I'm not. I will be using a mic worth about 1k though and I'm fine with this are for that job. The bolts have a plastic end for tightening that I will replace because they don't' last long if you don't. When I do get a U47 I'll buy a Latch Lake Mic King. For what I paid I'm quite satisfied.

Very, very BAD customer service.
I reached out to Peak Music several times for a very simple question. No one got back to me.I took a chance to buy this. Was very disappointed as it droops when the mic is mounted on it. I was offered a replacement thinking that the first one was a faulty one, but same problem. I think this was designed for 'toy' microphones. I'm returning it.Zero stars for Peak Music Stands.I'd never patronize them again.
