these groats are great! :-)
these groats make for feeling great, both by knowing you areeating something profoundly nutritious and as how energized you feel afterwards!buckwheat groats are, actually, not a wheat and are, in fact, a plant flower “seed” aka "groat" (see pic below) ... this seed is very high in both protein and fiber, which supports heart health and helps prevent diabetes and digestive disorders. and, these seeds (groats) are jam packed with nutrients and antioxidants and are considered a “superfood”.| observations |• taste great! ...they are soft and nutty, with a lot of flavor• cook fast ... though most cook for 10 - 15 minutes, we cook them for just 5 minutes to optimize their nutritional value, add cinnamon, pink salt, a tsp of coconut oil, and blueberries... and they are absolutely healthy and delicious! at 5 min., they are not super soft, rather firm with a soft crunch... a bit like al dente pasta, in terms of firmness and that soft crunch...or, like grapenuts after they have soaked in milk for a couple minutes... and, they are just delicious! :-)• a nutritional powerhouse … they have 6 grams of a highly digestible, complete protein, high in amino acids. they are also an excellent source of soluble and insoluble fiber and a better source than brown rice. lastly, they are high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants ... and, almost negligible in fat and packed with iron!.• gluten-free.• low glycemic index, thus, a very long-sustaining source of energy!as a very tasty part of a healthy diet, these buckwheat groats are tough to beat!very healthily pleased, Thank you. :-)

Who would've thunk it? I love buckwheat!
Before using Bob's I never thought that I would like buckwheat --- well, truthfully, I never actually thought about buckwheat at all! Turns out I love it and find that it fits into lots of dishes. Just about anywhere rice or couscous or bulger wheat goes, buckwheat is a good alternate. Great taste, wonderful fiber and super nutrition all rolled up into a great and flavorful grain. I've found that all of Bob's products are top notch, if somewhat expensive, and well worth the premium if affordability is not a driving force. And as for Amazon, well, again, often not the best price but great selection, easy to return and no driving!

Delicious, easy, very nutritious, and glutenfree
This is wonderful - my favorite brand of buckwheat groats for taste, consistency and quality. Wish more groceries carried this. Buckwheat is one of the most highly nutritious grains, is very easy and quick to cook, has a mild taste of its own, and can be used like rice in cooking meals. (I don't need gluten-free, but I included the above note because so many people are sensitive to gluten and need to find gluten-free alternative grains.) Buckwheat in whole grain form is called "groats"; in cracked/broken form is "kasha". These groats take no longer (or less long) to cook than brown rice. Boil 2 cups of water for each 1 cup of buckwheat groats (it's a 2:1 ratio, like white rice is); put in the groats and stir a little, then lower heat to low and cover until done. The grains should cook up distinct but soft, like a plump round rice would. For a little extra taste, you can toast the grains before cooking, by putting into a dry skillet over low heat, and stirring until a little roasty fragrance arises - the grains will get a little browner, but don't let them burn. This is a quick step, but if you are really in a tired hurry, buckwheat groats taste fine without the toasting pre-step. Some people traditionally mix an egg yolk into the dry grain during the optional toasting step, but this not necessary at all. Just about any recipe that uses any white or brown rice can use buckwheat instead - let your palate guide you.

Raw -NOT Mushy, Very Nutritious & Delicious!
I was originally hesitant to try these given the mixed reviews. I really love buckwheat and use it in a variety of different ways including as a hot morning cereal, fresh ground for homemade bread and pancakes (nothing beats fresh ground buckwheat flour made into pancakes with 100 wholesome maple syrup) and even in a type of pilaf. After re-reading a few things it appears there are some misconceptions about this product...1. - This is indeed raw and whole grain groats. If you are searching for roasted/toasted buckwheat you need to keep searching. If you are searching for partially ground, flaked, rolled, etc you also need to keep looking. For those that are familiar with Kasha - this is not roasted nor partially broken...when cooked it will turn into little round balls rather like tapioca.2. Not mushy...try this a few times to get the cooking correct. I eat this for breakfast with a little honey several times per week and it is excellent. No gluten, lots of nutrition including most essential amino acids, very little fat/calories...it's nearly the perfect food. Bring the water to a boil, put in the groats, reduce the heat and allow to simmer for a few minutes. Keep an eye on it - the buckwheat will "puff" and become soft. After a few attempts you will learn to recognize the preferred consistency that suites you best.3. Superb nutrition & versatile. Buckwheat should be considered a super-food it's so nutritious without all the other garbage. It's also incredibly versatile - from a hot breakfast cereal (boil and use a touch of honey) to fresh ground for bread (bread makers, use about 1:4 ratio with fresh ground whole wheat...since this has no gluten the wheat will allow it to rise while the buckwheat adds essential nutrients the wheat lacks. For those with a gluten intolerance, buckwheat is a superb alternative and can be used to create bread without any gluten but you will need to use an enhancer to help it rise.

Delicious!
My local grocer did not have this grain. I was so excited when I could purchase it here on Amazon. I love the bob's red mill brand and was so satisfied with this bag. Will buy again for sure.
