It's not opinion-it's pure medical science
I have read several anti-statin books, as well as enlightened views on cholesterol but this is the first one to address cellular bioscience in a way explains function really well. I audited a few med school lectures presented on cellular research and was fascinated by the process. Terminology is a killer for those of us who never learned and those of us who have forgotten. I was very impressed with the documentation studies that supported easy to understand concepts of cell function and the process that is well documented science. Full disclosure...I have been on and off statins twice. My shoulder is restoring itself with continued progress. My mind is coming along more slowly. This is a great book for people who want to understand their bodies. There is a very compelling introduction chapter that explains the function of cholesterol and the vital nature of this vilified cell component that every cell in the body depends on. Fascinating and interesting to read. Written by former chief of medicine for NASA in Houston.

A must read for anyone with even slightly elevated cholesterol, and for their doctors
Don't start statin therapy until you have read and digested this book, then don't start at all. If you are taking a prescription statin insist that your doctor read the book and then have a very deep discussion with him/her before continuing. If he/she isn' t persuaded of the risk/benefit imbalance, have him/her read "A Statin Nation". I have done a ton of research on my own to be satisfied that these books have the story right, and they have. I refused statin therapy 15 years ago, and now, having read these 2 books am profoundly thankful that I made that decision.

A must read
Authored by a medical doctor that went there and did that. Documented well.

Too bad big pharm has no ethics
Amazing book. I hope more people read this, especially the medical community. I’ve watched people close to me perish leaving children and spouses behind. What may have (I only pray this is true) been a true attempt at saving lives has gone terribly wrong. The almighty dollar rules at the cost of lost lives and tormented people. Shame on the makers of statins and the doctors that fail to study them trusting big pharm.

Excellent Resource, Disturbing
If you’re concerned about taking statins for cholesterol control, this is an excellent resource to clarify the risks and myths. The current medical guidance appears to be based on big business bias, not data. Cholesterol is an essential lipid for you bodily, and especially, your brain functions. Lowering it in the name of cardiovascular health does not have the data to back it up. Dr. Graveline covers this topic well with inclusion of his personal experiences.

Cholesterol really is Wonder - find out why
Did you know that there are 40 kinds of oxidized LDL cholesterol? LDL has been called the "bad" cholesterol, but only 7 of these are bad for you, the other 33 are actually good for you. This book, and the other one, "Cholesterol is Not the Culprit", address the biochemistry and should be easily readable and understandable by the average person. Learn the truth for yourself.

A must-read for anyone on statins, or for prescribing physicians!
Dr. Duane Graveline's newest book, The Dark Side of Statins, is a must-read for anyone on statins, or for anyone whose family member is on statins, or for doctors who continue to prescribe statins. As a member of a growing number of people with adverse effects from taking statins, I am learning the hard way about "the dark side of statins." Having read Dr. Graveline's other books, I can say that this book has the most comprehensive review of what is known about why we need cholesterol, and why blocking the manufacture of cholesterol can wreak havoc on human beings. Dr. Graveline is one of a small group of researchers and doctors bravely trying to take on the mammoth industry that seeks to continue selling drugs that interfere with cholesterol production, when it is now known that inflammation, not cholesterol is the problem with cardiovascular disease. I highly recommend this book!

Eye opening, well written, well documented
Very persuasive, well thought out, and not shrill argumentation for re-evaluating the benefits and significant downsides of taking statins. I was convinced not to restart taking a statin, discontinued after two years due to side effects prior to reading the book. A must read!
