Belmondo: Le Cerveau French

The robbery plot is very similar to the real Great Bank Robbery
In French with English subtitles. A heist comedy in which Murphy's Law (If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong) and its first corollary (If nothing can go wrong, it will anyway) are on full display. The Brain's (David Niven) master plan is bedeviled by the fact that a pair of petty crooks are attempting to rob the same train and that his Mafia backers are trying to stab him in the back. The result is chaos and frustration for all involved. The robbery plot is very similar to the real Great Bank Robbery, which was very recent, and suffered a similar farcical flaw - the retired train engineer the robbers relied on drove mainly yard engines and proved unable to drive a main line engine.Since much of the movie is slapstick and situational, the subtitles do not get in the way.

Good laughs, excellent acting, crazy story. What else do you need?
Very funny movie.Bourvil and Jean-Paul Belmondo are brilliant together. They play a couple of small time crooks going after all of NATO's money... They are an excellent counterpoint to an elegant, classy British officer played by and David Niven, who - supported by mafia - is after the same cash.Sweet movie, representingan all but gone adventure film genre, capturess the light entertainment style of the time when it was produced.

Did not endure as well as other comedies of its time
To begin with, the DVD transfer is very good, but there are no subtitles, not even French ones. Audio is original French, of course. The movie itself is lightweight, this is children comedy at best. It is surprising to see that this was directed by the same Gerard Oury that made the classic La Grande Vadrouille. It is not the fault of the actors or of the director, but the fault of a weak script. It has its funny moments but there are few and far between. I was not impressed with the cutting either.I cannot recommend the movie, but if you want it and don't mind the lack of subtitles, this transfer is ok.

Not a bad French comedy
Don't let the fact that this film features David Niven and Eli Wallach fool you, this is a French film through and through. The slapstick comedy is overdone by American standards but that is what French audiences of that era liked. It does have its moments and the shooting locations in Britain and France are interesting. While not a great film by any means, it does provide an evening of light entertainment.

CANNOT BE HEAVIER THAN NIVEN'S BRAIN
BELMONDO/BOURVIL AND NIVEN GREAT AND VERY FUNNY COMBINATION IN THIS ORIGINAL AND UNCUT FRENCH VERSION WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.

Run of the mill caper movie.
Belmondo and Niven usually provide more bang for the buck than is exhibited in this movie. This is watchable, but not nearly as good as it should have been. Not much more I can say about it. Check out Niven in "The Moon is Blue" and Belmondo in "That Man From Rio"... both outstanding comedies from the same era.

Not usable !
The delivery-time was huge and I got a CD with a non-european area-code, which in the practical reality meant, that I couldn’t use it.It was bought in Germany Amazon and delivered from US. I could not order a specific area code, and I think therefore, that someone would look at my address and determine which code to use. Comments not supplied.
