A must-read for concerned lay person, science teachers and school administrators
The book is a must-read for anyone interested in improving science education in our schools. It can also serve as a source of inspiration for the individual teacher and as a foundation for preparing curriculum-reform workshops for science teachers within a district. The book stresses the importance of teaching cause-and-effect relationships rather than isolated facts. The proposed goal is to prepare the pupils to apply the facts outside of their originally presented context, enabling them to solve problems or draw conclusions. The book is studded with examples of such application. For example, Given what we have learned about the motions of Earth and Moon, how long would be a "day" for an astronaut standing on the surface of the Moon? Other examples are given side bars that present true/false questions chosen to stimulate speculative thinking. The authors explain the interplay between hypothesis, data/evidence and alternative explanations that leads to the next experiment -- and higher level understanding.

Great book but no zoom option.
The book is full of good ideas and explains research well. However, between using kindle programmes on android, Windows and a MacBook, I can't zoom in on small details and it's a disaster on the eyes. In considering returning it cause of the lack of ability to read with ease.
