The Shield: Season 7 - The Final Act

One of the best series ever
I've watched the series at least 6 times hoping for a different end that of course doesn't happen . LOL. That said, the writing and acting was brilliant. Obviously a Hollywood show but great!!! The ending although a tad disappointing, really falls in line with bringing justice to bad people all around even if it is a cop and I'm a retired one.

the shield, all seasons, especially the first ones, really captivating.
It was fun and interesting to watch mackie and crew. the turning point for the whole thing of course is what happens to lem... all downhill from there. i dont like watching that much after that point. but up to then, its enjoyable and fun to watch. dutch and claudette are hard to watch, especially claudette of course. aceveda always trying to get them. this is one of my favorite cop shows. I've watched most of the wire. The wire is definitely not as good for me, although it surprisingly drew me in after a slow start, the wire ultimately fizzles out with the one guy constantly saying his tag line. The Sheild is a character study I guess, buddy cop movie gone wrong. working outside the system, what is right and what is wrong. what is justice? many deep themes touched on here. again, the claudette and dutch stuff plus julian stuff is all drama filler that gets in the way, wish they would cut out all that stuff. perhaps a remake with nothing but the primary crew.

A little disappointed.
I loved this series and for the most part the final season played out pretty much as it had to but unlike most people who have reviewed this final season, I felt somewhere along the line the ball was dropped as to whom Vic Mackey really was. Shane did just what I would have expected from knowing the character that he was but to me, Vic left unfinished business and that just was not Vic. As many faults as his character had, I always understood where he was coming from and saw the integrity in his character but the way he left it with Ronnie left me totally unsatisfied. I can imagine what I feel should happen with Vic in the future but he had a job to do with Ronnie and he didn't deliver. I don't want to ruin the show for those who haven't seen it but I had an idea of what should have gone down in the final episode and when it didn't happen, there was no closure for two of the characters. Still, one of the best shows ever put together and I bought every season and will absolutely watch them more than once. Vic Mackey will be a hard act to follow for anyone playing a cop in a future series or movie.

The Policeman Is Your Friend
It's been nearly a week since I finished viewing all of the episodes of The Shield. As I have written in another earlier review The Shield represents all of the foibles that have plagued mankind since the beginning of civilization. The lead character Vic is a wild beast uncontrolled by society's restrictions and will do anything, repeat anything, to protect his turf and family. All of the characters in the story are familiar to all of us; Cops in LA supposedly keeping the streets safe by arresting the guilty felonious criminals from The Hood and the cross-boarder cartel members infiltrating our country. No character in the story is likeable. All of them are corrupt and have an irrational hatred for anybody who breaks a rule while they themselves break all the rules. The police are accurately portrayed as small minded brutes who shoot innocent people on the street, break into homes and trash the contents. They take the innocent and the guilty to the police station and beat confessions out of them. This was a warning to us, but, we didn't listen and now we have police all over the U.S. who act like this and sometimes worse.

An addicting series
I actually bought the complete set of seven seasons but some episodes wouldn't play. This set was bought used to replace the bad episodes and of those I watched in this set they were O.K.. I am still wrestling with the ending but what a tension loaded series. We didn't like it at first as it portrays a lot of bad cops but eventually couldn't "put it down".

Masterful, compelling series
My only regret is there is no Season 8. You have to believe that despite everything, Mackey winds up somehow on his feet once more, maybe as a cop in a small town in Arizona, spending his fast wit and cunning on finding his family and reversing his fate, maybe somehow with Alceveda's coerced help, all the while foiling the feds' efforts to find him.Meanwhile, kudos for the incredibly good scripts, casting, acting, direction and guts to take on some of the street action without any varnish. The intensity from Chiklish and Pounder was phenomenal. and the gray-area moral dilemmas and shades of rare subtlety. Better than The Wire, better than Breaking Bad. It is an amazing accomplishment that at least I, for one, kept pulling all the way to the end for Mackey despite his murders, thefts, corruption, cheating on his wife, and ultimately betraying his partner. There is something of a fierce magnetism about him anyway that seems to negate all that...

One of the best TV shows ever!
The 7th and final season of The Shield wrapped up the series in a very unpredictable way, and kept viewers on the edges of their seats waiting for the next event The Shield: Season Seven - The Final Act in the ongoing saga of The Barn's denizens-the good, bad and ugly! The way that Vic Mackey both shows his true stripes and betrays the Strike Team in the end was both unexpected and genius, and his punishment(after much contemplation on my part) both deserved and fitting! The suprising thing is how much I ended up caring for Dutch and Wyms, and enjoyed Mackey getting his due! Kudos to a great cast and writing team! The DVD includes commentary and deleted scenes that greatly add to the production-one which I will watch over and over again! If for no other reason, get this set for the Emmy award acting of Michael Chiklis-he made Vic Mackey the best amoral character since William Petersen's portrayal of Chance in "To Live and Die in L.A."

THE SHIELD - WISHED FOR ANOTHER SEASON!
OUSTANDING - the entire series. Final season - writing, acting, directing, plots, sub-plots, twists/turns, fast paced, intelligent....what a show! I work in the Real world - on the job - and am totally impressed that 7 seasons could be so "real". Without using the "F" word once, the dialogue wasn't silly or contrived...most shows that try to portray people who live in this kind of violence and corruption (and not be X rated) will "manufacture" words or dialogue that is not believable and for me it really interferes with desire to watch the show. What brilliant writing to make it all "come together". Cannot believe the series is over - best thing EVER on TV other than Deadwood. Nothing much to watch now.......at least we can watch the vids over and over!!
