A Good Premise But Some Issues Around World & Character Building
In this book we meet Lisa, she is being sent to live with a distant Aunt, who she has never met before, who runs a boarding school in Massachusetts, while her Mother goes to live in a psychiatric hospital (I’ll come back to this later). She is not happy with this, not least because it involves leaving Florida and all of her friends. On arriving at her Aunt’s she is met with two unusual characters, Alex and Ally. They seem to talk in riddles, appear out of nowhere, and don’t socialise. There are also a couple of very strange pets who don’t like to be touched and seem rather aggressive. Then she is hit by lightening and things go from strange to out of this world. To start with this book had a really interesting premise and this is what kept me reading, but it wasn’t as well formed or written as I would like. I felt like there was a lot missing from the story in terms of character and plot development and that really not a lot happened.I didn’t feel very connected to the protagonist, Lisa, and felt much of the story was awkward and disjointed. There wasn’t a comfortable flow to the story and I felt much more could have been made of the suspense and developing many of the supporting characters.I felt very uncomfortable with the way mental health was referred to in this book and almost gave up on this book as a result after only a few pages. It was very stigma heavy and used references to mental health that made me very unhappy. I understand that the book was trying to put across the relationship between Lisa and her Mother and how her Mother’s mental health issues were upsetting to Lisa but I felt it was done in a very insensitive way at a time when we need to be knocking down walls of stigma, especially for young adults.I also felt very offended at the naming of the dog as Bipolar just because it was friendly one moment and aggressive the next, this showed a massive misunderstanding of what bipolar disorder is.Overall this was a good and enjoyable read but not a series I will continue.Thank you very much to Christina Leigh Pritchard via Xpresso Book Tours for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

Electrifying and Addictive!
"Lynn, Lynn, City of Sin. You Never Come Out the Way You Went In."... That is, of course, if you come out at all...I just finished reading the first installment of Christina Leigh Pritchard's "C I N" series: Book 1 - "Lynn, Lynn, City of Sin. You Never Come Out the Way You Went In." And, I'll tell you something interesting--after stepping into Pritchard's fiction, I didn't want to leave, and I definitely came out different than I went in.Pritchard's work is a YA paranormal yarn, which typically isn't found in my book bag. But I decided to give it a read nonetheless, to broaden my literary horizons--and I'm so very glad I did. This book may be YA, but it is for an ageless audience. The story is very compelling and intriguing, filled with characters--both human and animal--which touch your heart, slap you in the face, and raise your eyebrows.Full of surprises, the novel progresses at an addictively readable pace. I found myself going farther in the book than I had intended to go during each reading session. I just needed to find out more and more.It isn't until nearly halfway through the work that Pritchard starts to reveal some of the characters', and town's, secrets. The build-up is riveting, and the revelations are shocking, sometimes disturbing, sometimes pacifying. The conclusion of Book 1 itself is not a conclusion, but rather an introduction. At the end of her work, Pritchard has her lead, Lisa Brown, asking herself many questions, which tease and taunt the reader with things to expect in the forthcoming books in the series. As soon as I read the last page, I found myself hitting one of Pritchard's websites, [...], so that I could find more "C I N" to feed my new addiction."C I N: Lynn, Lynn, City of Sin. You Never Come Out the Way You Went In" really impressed me and kept me turning its pages. The paranormal characters are of a new breed that is absolutely electrifying, so to speak. You'll definitely want to read this one--and the ones to follow.

not a bad first novel
I liked the new story line- this was a nice unique storyline. I liked how everything linked up in the end. The author thought through and did not drop hints. Sometimes authors are just too obvious about things, this one was not and it was nice. But there were a lot of awkward moments- there were several parts during the book that I was left wondering, what was going on. At one point she mentions moving into the dorms at a new school and her new roommate. The next chapter, she moves there and then lives with some stranger not in the dorms. It was weird until it was explained school had not started yet. There were other instances like it that just confused me. This was probably due to the some very abrupt points. Something happen= end a chapter and a bit of a cliffhanger to keep reading... fine works, and then start up again, but cliffhanger not explained and at a new weird entry back into the story. The flow felt offIt was an okay book for me and a good start for the writer. Will I read the next? Probably not as my list of books on my kindle is over 100 already, but it was an enjoyable read as it was.

SWEET
this book was awesome. I got it expecting something supernatural, and ended up with the perfect book for me. It was romance, adventure, mystery, and a small touch of the supernatural world. It's all about the trust of each others decisions (yes I know that sounds boring, but trust me, you get into it) It really pulled me in, and made me want to not sleep just to keep reading!!!loved it, but just a couple of parts I would have changed but AWESOME none the less :D

not worth the time I gave up to read it
Words to describe this book: strange, baffling, and incomplete.I was close to abandoning this book several times and seriously wish I had.Initially I picked this book up because it takes place in the city I grew up in: Lynn, Massachusetts. I quickly learned that the author must have never spent any time in Lynn, because she got it all wrong. OK maybe not ALL wrong: there are homeless people and there are woods... but I could not tell you where the C I N school is within the city and the while New England weather is unpredictable she totally over-exaggerated.So while the setting was frustrating, I continued to read this book. The plot was slow and never really sucked me in. Why did I keep reading? Because I could not understand Alex and Ally and wanted to know why they were so mean and why they lacked social skills. I sort of got an answer near the end, but then again not really.I was disappointed. It seems like the author threw a lot of elements and plot teasers in the book in an attempt to write a series, but it was poorly done. I will not be reading the rest of the series and will be deleting this from my kindle ASAP.Why is the "school" called C I N anyways?!

Well Written and Engaging
First off, unlike your "typical" Amazon review, I am NOT going to give you a blow-by-blow of the book, or even a synopsis. If you want that, go read the book cover, book synopsis or so many other reviews. My job here, as I see it, is to write a REVIEW, not summarize the book.Yes, for a 44 year old man I read novels intended for teen/young adult girls. The simple truth is, These authors for T/YA books are, IMHO, miles beyond the so-called "mature" authors when it comes to inventiveness, maturity, writing style, imagination and just plain creativity than most writing for an audience twice the age.As far as C.I.N. goes, I was captivated from the very first chapter and riveted throughout. Every time I thought I had the "secret" figured out, the author tricked me and revealed yet another secret! This was no "teen girl meets boy, they fall in love, adversity keeps them apart, boy becomes hero, they get together in the end" style of book we see so often in this market. It was twisted (in a good way), dark, complex, gave you just enough to keep you interested but hid enough to keep you from getting bored. There was romance, but DEFINITELY not your typical romance (to say the east.If you (or your teen) enjoyed ANY of the Twilight, Harry Potter or Percy Jackson books - well written with lots of action - then you will love these books.
