Trunk Of Funk Vol 1

Grand Funk was the greatest American rock band ever! Mark Farners songwriting ability is second to none and his vocals are very powerful. Every guy in the band is at the top of their game. The bass is in your face and bounces you around the room. The drums are like a locomotive train and the name Grand Funk Railroad fits perfectly. I like all the CDs but my favorite is Closer to home. It starts out with a few acoustic chords and at first you think it’s going to be a mellow song. Then all of a sudden Sins a good mans brother kicks in and the song rocks like no other! I saw these guys live back in the 70’s and they were freaking amazing! Their talent runs deep. I was at the Oakland Coliseum and I was in the front in the middle of a sea of humanity. We were all smashed together and it felt dangerous because if one person leaned then we all leaned. The eyes of Mel the bass player were wide and he looked like he was afraid for all of us because it was that crowded and insane, but fun!! I love Grand Funk Railroad and this box set is just what the doctor ordered. If your feeling down play some of these discs and blow the damn blues away!! Rock on forever!

Reviled by critics, Grand Funk Railroad were a mega selling 70s hard rock band. This fabulous 2016 Capitol box set (one of two volumes) covers their 1st 6 LPs (5 studio, 1 live), along w/17 bonus tracks. Sound is excellent, & all tracks play back at a uniform volume (great for making fav playlists via computer - btw, Windows Media Player correctly identifies all encoded disc info). Each mini album comes in its original gate-fold cover, & fits inside a large clamshell box (5 5/8” W x 5 ¼” H x 1 5/8” D – too big for my shelf). Includes an informative very-hard-to-read (white print on red/ black backround) 20 page booklet (w/unfortunately no info on bonus tracks). Since radio shied away from playing most of their early albums back then, & I was a music snob, kind of believing the critics, a good share of their catalog is new to me now. Happy happy joy joy!

I love the packaging and especially love the music of Grand Funk Railroad. Some of the greatest early hard rock and roll ever!!! Recommend Trunk of Funk Volumes 1 and 2 for the most comprehensive collection of Grand Funk. Manufactured very well, but have to give raspberries to Columbia for NOT putting recording information on any of the CDs. Put a CD on the computer, rip the music to the drive and you have to edit the info onto it yourself. Play it in your car and get no graphic artwork, but does display track info, at least. Great content and packaging, no need to complain much.

This is a great set. GFR's from 1969 to 1971. It includes the albums (on CD) On Time, Grand Funk Closer To Home, Live Album, Survival and E Pluribus Funk. They are all in mini album selves, that are the original album art, the ads look like the remasters hear in the states. They look and sound great. It includes a booklet on GFRs History and comes all in a box. This is a must get for GFR fans.

I initially gave this 5 stars because I'm sure a major fan would love it, but after inserting the discs in my computer and getting zero info I knocked off a star. This is the first half of the first 12 albums released by Grand Funk on Capitol Records. 10 studios and 2 live. This set has 5 studios and one live. Remember this is one of two sets. Yes the discs come in mini LP cardboard sleeves. Just pinch the sides a little and the discs will easily come out. As for me I just can't get into most of the music in either one of these sets. Most of the songs are too heavily reliant on keyboards, and most of the songs aren't heavy rockers. There's a lot of schmaltz. A... LOT... OF... SCHMALTZ...Don't forget to read my VOL 2 review for more info not mentioned here.

Excellent edition the first records by the amazing USA power trio, these Edition its single but eficient, god sound and nice bonus track, Relation quality price is very good

Love evryone of these albums. I listened to them over and over again and again. I got this as a surprise gift for my wife and she hasn't stopped listening to this collection. Some of the albums she had never heard, but has still fallen in love with GFR all over again and listens to each and every album in tis collection.

Great70’s band. Great price for boxset.

Die Box Trunk of Funk Vol. 1 behinhaltet die ersten 6 Alben von Grand Funk Railroad, welche sie im sagenhaften Zeitraum zwischen 1969 und 1971 abgeliefert hatten. 5 Studio-Alben plus der ersten Live-Scheibe von Grand Funk. Der rauhe urwüchsige Rock von Grand Funk suchte damals seinesgleichen. Eventuell Bloodrock oder Ursa Major könnte man noch damit vergleichen. Alle Alben sind hervorragend remastered und kommen mit Bonustracks. Die CDs sind jeweils in einer Klapphülle. Dazu gibts noch ein informatives Begleitheft. Dies alles zu einem sehr günstigen Preis (26 Euronen), das lässt mir nur die Möglichkeit von 5 Sternen bei der Bewertung.

Probably one of the best 3 piece (on occasion 4 piece) rock bands ever. If you like your rock loud and simple then you'll love GFR and this box set (plus the 2nd set) have got everything you need.

just received my trunks vol 1 and 2 must say i been a fan since 1970 seen grand funk for the first time at maple leaf gardens in toronto in 1971 i collect everything GFR and i must say this UK release has got to be the best i have liner notes are right to the point and give the credit they so deserve i also own the original trunk the japan mini lp trunks and everything available around the world grand funk laserdisc dvd video. we need a offical dvd release maybe the UK can make it happen san diego concert from 1974 . the price of these trunks are very resonable again the packaging is great a must have for any fan of GFR thanks Anthony
