Review Snow is my first book by Mike Bond but definitely not my last. It's a fast paced thriller with well written character that will keep you reading until the end. Zack, a former NFL star and Steve, a long time friend and Wall Street broker, are on their yearly hunting trip in the high county of Montana with their guide Curt when they find a downed plane that has two caskets in it that are both filled with cocaine. Zack and Steve, both hiding financial issues from each other, decide to take the cocaine to NY and Las Vegas to sell it and end their financial woes. Turns out that the cocaine belongs to a Mexican cartel who wants it back at any cost. Diego is working for the cartel and stops at nothing to get what he wants. The book is set up around these 4 main characters, with lots of other strong secondary characters, and the reader learns not only about their crime but the reasons behind their crimes as well as learning about why Diego acts as he does. So even though all of them but Curt are criminals they come across as people who are caught up in the mistakes that they've made in the past, willing to do whatever they can to get their good lives back and not really sure of how they got where they are. The line between good and evil is definitely a blurred line in this novel. I thought that this was an excellent book and plan to go back and read some of this author's earlier books. Read more

A real page-turner
Writing is hard. Good writing is even harder. Writing a novel that captures you and makes you look forward to your reading sessions is very rare. This is one of those books. Great plot, believable characters and non-stop action. I felt sad when I finished it. And for those reviewers who objected to it because it included drug use and used realistic language: you need to get out more. Don't slam a novel that portrays the real world we live in just because you don't see it in your gated community.Highly recommended.

Fast and pulse-driving
From the very first page this is an exciting book. As the story developed and the central characters developed, the author kept it moving quickly. I could not read the last 50 pages fast enough. And it certainly had a surprise ending which I enjoyed very much. This is my first reading of this author and will not be the last.

Just Not My Kind of Read
I couldn't finish this book. I stopped at 24% complete. It just seemed so predictable ... rich, selfish guys doing what they do best when they come face to face with their own greed. I suspect that one of them may have had a change of heart before it was all over, but I just couldn't wade through all the hyper stealing and running with total disregard for the law, the people who would undoubtedly kill them or anyone else who got in their way, and the man who had always been kind and treated them with respect. These men. who undoubtedly worked hard and were well educated to get where they were prior to finding the crashed plane, just threw it all to the wind for drugs. I find that depressing.

Fast Paced Read For A Cold Winter Night
"Snow" is a fast paced page turner that explores friendship, deception, betrayal, murder, and of course a bit of sex. The tale describes how two otherwise reasonable friends can suddenly change their perspectives when presented with a real threat to their personal wealth while at the same time, fate provides a highly lucrative, but illegal way to protect themselves from financial disaster. Although I found the story one that kept me turning pages, my only criticisms are that all the events, travel, etc takes place over what seems to be an unreasonable short period of time; part of the tale focuses on spending grueling days and nights in the sub zero, snowy wilderness of Montana, Utah, and Nevada, but the story moves so fast through time, the intensity of the experience seems lessened. Additionally, one of the lead characters is a savvy Wall Street type but it seems every decision he makes seems to make the situation worse. The end of the story is a bit of a surprise but it works. This is a good read for a cold winter night!

Spellbound
A Story that has the reader in its grip, start to finish. The main characters are well defined and colorful. For me, I followed chapter after chapter hoping that there would be a twist that would change the direction of the story unexpectedly. I kept hoping Steve and Zach would find relief from their dangerous road of mishaps and stupidity. The level of stress, physical exhaustion and bad luck just followed them to the very end.

You will be right there in the scenes and action with them all the way, sometimes rooting, sometimes mad.
I like Mike Bond's books. He always brings up environmental issues and has great plots and fast action. This book presented a difficult decision the men have to make when they discover a treasure of sorts and no one is looking. What would you do? Read it and find out how their decision impacts not only them, but their families and friendships. Did they do the right thing? Wonderful, exciting snow country action.

Crime doesn't pay...
I don't normally read crime thrillers, but I took a chance on this one and thoroughly enjoyed it.I particularly enjoyed Curt's thoughts and views about the environment and culture as he tried to make sense of what the protagonists had got themselves into as he followed them on their 'adventure'.I'd definitely pick up another Mike Bond novel.

Four Stars
Usually I read a lot of reviews before downloading a book, however, the synopsis of this book sounded so interesting I only read a few. Before writing this I read many more reviews and was sorry to see how many people gave away the ending without any “spoiler” alerts. It’s very unfair to potential readers to give away the ending in a review.A lot of the negative reviews concerned the impossibility of performing superhuman physical actions with a broken arm or a hand that has been partially shot off, but I usually just chalk it up to artistic license and never expect to find total reality in an action-packed thriller. Mr. Bond’s bio states that he is a “. . . human rights journalist and an environmental activist” and that certainly comes through in this book – I could have done with a little less preaching. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the character development. The book started out very good, got a little slow for a while, and then became a real page-turner in the last third. Even though Steve and Zack were flawed, occasionally some facet of their life was revealed that made them more likeable and made me root for their success. The author’s writing ability made me feel the cold and desperation being experienced by Steve and Zack. This is the first Mike Bond book I’ve read and will definitely read others.
