I have literally saved myself hundreds of dollars with this tool!
This was exactly what I needed to drill holes in my guitars to install endpin jacks for my modified piezo pickups. I had asked a luthier to install these a few months ago and he said he could not drill into a laminated side (many of my guitars have laminated backs and sides) because it could split the wood. I asked another guy, a GC tech, about this, and he said yes, but you needed a special tool; he showed me a $300 reamer. Impressive. But also very expensive. I asked several other techs as well as the owner/maker of a well known brand of piezo pickups, and he recommended a step drill with an "end" of 1/2 inch. So I came here to Amazon, found this step drill bit, taped the hole area with painter's tape, and bore into the bottom of my first laminated side - slow, steady, and easy. And PRESTO - no rips, no tears, no more shelling out of LOADS of money.I've since done 4 more guitars with this little drill bit. All were laminate sides except on HPL. Two were on obscure guitars under $80 each, two were student Yamahas, and one was a Martin - and no problems whatsoever! At this point, I'd be comfortable drilling a hole into any level of guitar with this bit. I'm not particularly handy. If I can do it, I bet you can, too!Next time you want to install a pickup in your guitar, save your money and just buy an inexpensive piezo system and this drill bit; spend what you would pay a tech on a new guitar!

Awesome drill bill
Nice quality drill bill. Super sharp, works better than expected, I have used it for drilling on metal, wood, and plastic without any issues. Great value

Terrific. Cuts through steel like butter.
Got a new padlock for an old shed and the shackle was a couple of millimeters larger than the holes in the hasp. If you've ever tried to slightly widen a hole in steel with a larger drill bit, you'll know what a nightmare it is. This bit was one of the few affordable step-bits that advertised that it would cut through steel. Most of the other less expensive ones only mentioned aluminum and copper metals.Long story short, it worked to perfection. Glided into the hole and I could easily see just how much I was widening it. Didn't seem to wear or dull the bit at all. This will be one of my most used tools from now on.

Good product
Worked very well for my application of widening holes in thin stainless. Not sure if it will stay sharp - but I don’t have much experience with other tools like this. It seemed to weaken a little after 4 holes. But solid and of high quality.

Very Tough Step Bit
I was very surprised at how long this step drill bit lasts and stays sharp. Went through 3 or 4 of the big box hardware store bits before getting this bit. The bit did 75% of the remaining drilling and was still usable once all the holes were drilled.

Works with impact
If you are a tradesman or trades woman, this is a must have. I purchased this as a gift for my nephew who just started in the electricians union. I am a union sheet metal worker and I use this all the time at work. Gone are the days of having to carry a drill. With these bits that work with an impact, a drill is hardly ever used.
