100% the best product for men with short to medium hair.
Absolutely love this stuff. I have used everything it is possible to buy on my thick but dry hair, and this is by far the best. It is thicker than a gel, but thinner than a clay, giving a slightly more waxy consistency. It applies far more easily than clays and waxes I have used and has absolutely zero clumping, avoiding that miniature rhino horn scenario that tends to happen as hair gets a bit longer. It lasts all day, you can’t “feel” it in place like some products but it provides rock solid hold.As a side note, when applied on dry hair there is still a very slight wettening or darkening effect. It by no means looks like you are wearing gel, it just has the hallmarks of a pomade, giving a slight shine. That might sound obvious given it’s name, but it really isn’t nowadays; it is fashionable to call things pomades now even when they are no such thing, after the old school barbershop revival, especially with American products. This is not like an old school pomade with high shine, it’s just that you can see that your hair darkens a bit. You can counter this by blow drying after applying, if you want a completely natural look.Oh, and it smells amazing. I can smell it on my own head and it makes you feel like you’ve just been to the barbers for a fresh cut all day long.

Layrite Superhold Pomade
Layrite Superhold PomadeFantastic hair product. I have actually tried this, liked it, tried other products and again come back to this. I like to my options open. Great hold, great fragrance and easy to apply, what more can you ask for? I have the usual "untameable thick hair" that doesn't like to go back ( I wear a slick back undercut - think Arthur Shelby from Peaky Blinders) and this is the only product to date that keeps it in place ALL DAY.Of course, this being a water based pomade, you are going to use more product than your oil based pomades meaning you'll be spending more overall on having to re stock sooner, however for me the pro's out weigh the cons in pretty much every aspect. What you spend extra on stocking up on Layrite, you certainly save in special de-greasing shampoo's. As for the whole "chemicals" argument between water based and oil based products, well each to their own, but just remember if you go for the less chemical included oil based pomade, you'll be putting more chemicals in your hair trying to remove it. It's all swings and roundabouts. Now one thing to note is that this pomade dries hard. For some this is a definite no no, I understand, if anything that is my least favourite thing about this product, but don't get me wrong, it's brilliant. After all I chose "Super Hold" and it is water based. It's going to happen but it works!I'm currently hoarding 9 different types of wax, gel and pomade on my shelf ranging from super expensive to super cheap, strong hold to extra light hold and even one homemade batch, yet Layrite Super Hold is the only one I am using. Bit of a shame for the others but hands down Layrite's the best in my book.Layrite = Brilliant.

Does what it says on the tin.
Pretty good stuff. I use it probably a few times a week on my beard and it’s got a good strong hold. I use it mainly on my cheeks where the beard hair is not as thick, so I use the product the flatten the hair down against my face and stop it looking so long and whispy. It works well however the product does have a kind of wet look thing going on which I detest. I find that a normal hair product with a Matt finish is actually better for my purposes, but if you have a perfect full beard and simply want a product to give it a nice shine and shape it then this would be the ideal stuff.

Waxy waxy gel gel for the slickback gentlemen of yore
Great hair product, never used anything quite like it before.I'm a 40 year old Caucasian with very thick straight hair that would naturally fall forward in a classic 'basin' if allowed, it has most certainly not been allowed to do so since I was about 11 and since then have used various hair products to gel, wax, spray and whatever into a quiff or slick back type style. I've always used you standard L'oreal or wella type stuff from the supermarket. Always thought these were ok and typically I've used gels as I don't like the greasy feel of wax and inability to wash of my hands or hair. When I first used layrite I thought it was like the strongest gel I'd ever encountered. It really is super super strong and a little can go a long way. I've found that a small half a fingernail type blob will give me a similar hold to the products I used to use, using a bit more than this means I can go for the full on slick back which I've never really been able to achieve with other products without blasting back with the dryer etc and I can't be arsed with that in the morning. You can get a wet look more like a gel if hair is damp when you apply to your hair or you can get a more wax like finish if you apply to dry hair (which I prefer). Overall it's good stuff and I would recommend trying if you have thick hair you want to hold back. Best of all it washes off hands and hair really easy with just water.

Decent stuff but not the best
Was looking for something that would stop me having to use hairspray to hold some parts of my hair that refuse to be held in place by waxes and gels, unfortunately this isn't it.It holds well for the most part, but I am similar to the other reviewer on here in that I have hair at the front that will grow straight down and refuse to be slicked back (Unless I let it get silly long). Any attempt to do this will leave you with hair that points straight up if not slowly falling back down and pointing forward again. The rest of my hair it holds well, but then again most other products will hold this as well.Texture, amount required, smell, etc are all good points, no issue there.
