Expensive, but extremely useful.
Bought for use with a HERO4 silver. The pairing is easy, & duplicates the functions & screen on the camera. It may not sound the most useful item, but the ability to switch the camera on & off (recording mode) from one hand, while pointing & shooting with the camera (on a hand mount) in the other, is extremely useful & allows for a smooth recording process. It's pricey for what it is, (GoPro's motto) but it does it all seamlessly, & I wouldn't be without it. Replicating the screen gives you the confidence it's all set up to go, & the flashing red light tells you it is actually recording in the mode you want. I don't know what range it will work over, but for truly remote work it looks great. Yes you can do this with a the free phone app, not not in the palm of your hand, or as subtly..... or for as many hours on the remote battery.Another useful feature is to be able to power down both the remote & GoPro, from the remote... & wake them both back up again! The wireless part of the GoPro stays active (blue light flashes) awaiting a signal.

Essential add on for anyone using a gopro.
Simple to pair with the camera. Works really well. Nice key fob size but very robust. Makes using the camera on a pole or if it's clipped to a high vantage point a doddle. Can interact with all the settings etc with the duplicate menu. I only have one gopro so I can't comment on how easy it is to use multiple cameras, but in a lot of ways it's a lot more versatile and less cumbersome than pairing up with a phone. It also doesn't smash if you drop it while juggling stuff in your hands.

Improved my GoPro experience no end.
This remote has added many optons to the use of my GoPro. it has enabled me to go from the always on modes I would use before owning the remote to operateing the camera only when needed, weather that be from my steering wheel, on a tripod, selfie stick or even a head or body harness. It also allows you to easily use the different camera modes in the same session, without the need to fiddle with the camera itself which is helpful if you are some distance from your GoPro. Yes the smart phone apps can do much the same but only with in fairly close range. The remote will work well over 100 meters.

Really happy with it, used for helmet cam for snowboarding
areas for improvement - tad pricey, also the included velcro wrist strap is not long enough to go over a ski glove + jacket. Other than that, it does what it says on the tin, it allows rugged remote control of the cam including turning on and off to get the most out of the batteries. So snowboarding I switch on at the top of every run, film to the bottom, stop and switch off. At lunch I played around reviewing some of the film and photos. I used 3 camera batteries (maybe tad more as I also plug the camera into Powermonkey at lunch) every day and although this remote did not run out I think it was close to running out by the end of the day with one bar. So you get about a day from it. The screen is a bit hard to read with less than great eyesight but this is not really a flaw, since it is small by its nature, it is just how it needs to be. It is great when using as helmet cam as is so much easier than removing helmet in order to see all your settings and you don't want to be getting your phone out on chairlifts when it is snowing. I have done about 7 days of it now and this was consistent performance for both remote and camera.

Great Little Remote
Again another GoPro necessity. Especially if you want those all important selfie shots. It can be a bit of a fiddle to link up to the GoPro but once you have it done just leave it as is that's what I do. I don't find it drains the battery when not in use.To link it up all you do is access the settings menu on the GoPro, switch your WiFi on and then switch RC on and hey presto everything that is on the front screen of the GoPro is on the screen of the remote. The remote has a built in battery which lasts a lot longer than the GoPro one. As it is only running that small screen which has no back light. You charge it with a usb cable that comes with it. And I have seen a lot of people asking if it is waterproof and I can say yes it is. It is waterproof to 10m. But please note that WiFi signal doesn't work underwater. Maybe useful for snorkelling or of if you are out in the rain. All in all this is a great little remote which makes life a lot easier with the GoPro.I would definitely say it is worth the price just for an easier life and better photos without your arm in it or remembering how long you have set your timer for!Happy Snapping!

not worth the money
albeit a very good construction and feeling in hand, I was quite disappointed by the poor, unfriendly menu and connectivity with camera as well as the small battery life (no more than 2h). What's more, I really want to meet and greet the genius behind this brilliant idea of creating a bulky cable connector unlike any other in the market. Carrying a GoPro cam and remote now requires you to carry 2 different cable types (add to that your phone and another cam and you have a nice bouquet of cables to carry with your holiday luggage). Really expensive for what you get, you better get yourself a fake chinese one for half price (I don't see any reason why a fake would be worse than this).

Smart Option for Multiple GoPRo's
It's a good idea to have one of these remotes if you carry a number of GoPro's in your kit bag. The remote can have up to 50 GoPro's paired via the GoPro WiFi comms option and makes syncing of content capture simple to do. I can have up to 4 GoPro's set up at any one time, usually placed around my motorbike or sometimes on other riders bikes. As long as you are within around 10 meters you can simply hit a the record button and have them all trigger at the same time. The remote also gives you the option to change the capture state (and other settings) of your GoPro's from video/loop to photo modes. Great if you are using GoPro Sessions which are always fiddly to configure. The biggest advantage is that you can start and stop recording capturing only of the content you want without having to have the camera's rolling all the time. This saves you having to trawl through vast amounts of unwanted video when editing, but more importantly saves space on your SD card and also extends the battery life of the power hungry GoPro's, which means you don't miss out on crucial action shots.

Exceptional Value
My review of the Go Pro Smart RemoteI purchased this to work in conjunction with my Go Pro Hero 5 Black digital camera. As pictured, it arrived on time and in retail packaging. I purchased the camera to record the travels I take on my motorcycle. I have the camera mounted on my motorcycle helmet.Since the camera was mounted on my helmet, I could never tell if it was recording or in what mode it was set to. I came back from one short ride and discovered when I powered on the camera, I had accidentally changed it from video to time lapse and I actually had over 750 time lapse photos instead of video.I decided it was time to give the Go Pro Smart Remote a try. As it turned out, it was a smart decision. When the remote arrived, I charged it up for a few hours. Sorry, but I didn't time how long it took to reach full charge. Following the included instructions, pairing the remote with my camera was a snap.Once it was paired, it was time to give it a test run. Using the remote, I powered on the camera. It took a few seconds after the camera was turned on for the remote and camera to connect via the cameras WiFi.Once it did, I could see from the screen on the remote that the camera was set to Video mode and what video settings were in effect. I pressed the record button and heard the camera beep and start recording. A red light on the remote began blinking, indicating it was recording. Pressing the record button a second time resulted in the red light turning off and I could hear the camera beeping indicating it had stopped and was saving the recording.I did this several times and both the remote and camera functioned perfectly. Using the included key ring, I attached the remote to a lanyard which I placed around my neck and went for a test ride. As expected, it functioned exactly how I wanted it to.You can control up to 50 Go Pro cameras from an optimal distance of 600 feet or 188 meters. Unfortunately though you can only control one camera at a time. It is also supposed to be water proof up to 33 feet or 10 meters. I'll have to take Go Pro's word for it though, since I only have 1 camera and don't intend to take it deep sea diving.I would caution anyone who might be considering purchasing one of the less expensive knock off remotes you find online. Some only function to turn the camera Off, not On. Would you but a remote control for your TV that only turns it Off, but not On? Silly huh......I would have liked the charging cable to be a little longer but that certainly isn't a blemish on the product or my rating. I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Excelente producto.
