This product is well made and satisfyingly sturdy. However, it is only useful in the right circumstances.. I wanted to be able to tension a “minky” type retractable washing line and this device is no use in this case. 1. A retractable type washing line cannot be tensioned because the line is not fixed at one end ( it is coiled up in its spring loaded case - so cannot be tensioned ). 2. This kind of line is too small in diameter and plastic covered, and so the ball bearing grips cannot hold the line - it just slips through the grips. The sort of line it would suit needs to be fabric, say cotton or sisal rope at least 1/4 inch or 6mm in diameter, then the ball -grips would hold on the rope as they would dig-in to the fabric. Secondly, the washing line would need to be fixed at one end, say fastened to a hook in the wall or to a post then stretched out to another fixing point where the tensioner would be fitted. The product could be better described or better still shown in a short video how the device is to be used. The vague description which is given is pretty useless and encourages people such as myself to buy a product that is not going to be of any use them.

It didn't work with my washing line, it just slipped back through and I couldn't use it. Maybe it would work with a much thicker rope but it not with a standard washing line.
