Q: Does it grip onto the laptop to prevent falling like the roost laptop stand?

Yes, you slide it into little hooked rubber grips; it can't slip out. You have to lift it up and pull it away from the stand to get it out.

Q: How do unfold this item. I just bought it and cannot see any clips I need to release to unfold it .

The sleeve came with a slip of paper inside it with instructions on how to open, adjust and close it. Hold the two circles and pull them apart to open. And then the white clips adjust the height to 3 settings. And to close you push the frame back up from behind where the laptop would be sitting. Hard to explain but I hope this helps

There are x2 rubberised feet and the laptop contact points are rubberised also.

Q: How does this compare with the Nextstand and Roost laptpp stand?

The Gravitron weighs about the same as the Roost Stand and is lighter than the Nexstand. Nexstand has 8 height adjustment options whereas the Gravitron and Roost have only 3. To hold the laptop in place the Roost and Nexstand have arc grips whereas the Gravitron has retractable clips.
